Master Unreal Tournament's in-game events and mechanics. Learn about the console, shout box, First Blood, headshots, multi-kills, killing sprees, and headstomping.

This section covers various in-game events and mechanics that provide feedback and add depth to gameplay in Unreal Tournament. Understanding these can enhance your awareness and strategic options.

Console: The console allows you to input unbound commands directly into the game engine. While not used frequently, it's recommended to have a console key set up. The console does not pause the game, rendering you immobile while open. Commands are typed accurately and executed by pressing ENTER. Many useful commands are listed in Section 3 (ADVANCED), though most are bound to keys. The console also logs in-game events, complementing the shout box.

Shout Box: This HUD element displays important in-game developments like player kills and objective captures. It's crucial in team games for tracking teammates and can be used to monitor opponents by observing who is actively engaged in combat. Voice communication software often replaces its utility in online play, but it remains useful for real-time updates.

First Blood: A cosmetic feature that announces when you are the first player to score a kill in a round (suicides do not count). In Deathmatch, this often signifies the player who first reached the shield-belt.

Headshot: A successful headshot results in instant death for the opponent. Even a bot with a full health belt can be killed with two sniper rifle headshots. You'll receive a HUD message for each headshot. Only the sniper rifle and the primary ripper can achieve headshots.

Multi-kills: Award messages for consecutive kills within a short timeframe (approximately two seconds between kills). These messages appear on your HUD and other players' mini-consoles.

  • Two opponents: Double-Kill!
  • Three opponents: Multi-Kill!
  • Four opponents: Ultra-Kill!
  • Five opponents: MONSTER-KILL!

Killing a sixth opponent or more within the time limit will repeat the MONSTER-KILL! message.

Killing Sprees: Similar to multi-kills, but based on the number of kills achieved without dying. Spree messages are displayed to all players. The best way to achieve them is by getting multiple kills while prioritizing survival. Sniping and area-of-effect attacks are common strategies.

  • Five opponents: Killing Spree!
  • Ten opponents: Rampage!
  • Fifteen opponents: Dominating!
  • Twenty opponents: Unstoppable!
  • Twenty five opponents: GODLIKE!

Getting more than twenty-five kills without dying results in the GODLIKE! message, with no further messages for higher kill counts.

Headstomp: You can jump on other players' heads to bounce. Enemies on whose heads you land will gradually lose health, and you will too if an enemy lands on yours. You can initiate a headstomp by falling from above or by using an alt-hammer-jump. The higher the fall, the more damage inflicted on the player underneath. It's possible to kill a full-health opponent by falling on them, though you will likely die as well.
