Unreal Tournament 1999 Part 58 guide covers CTF-EternalCave map strategies, including offense, defense, T/L launching exploits, and weapon tips for capturing the flag.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Offense: When leaving the enemy base, run up the hillside on your left for protection against enemies spawning at the sniper rifle. To exploit the dropped flag, carry the flag home, drop it in a hidden spot in the blue base before grabbing the flag, then T/L back there instantly after a capture. For a more advanced exploit, carry the flag all the way home, drop off the edge of your tower onto a surrounding ledge, then throw and use your T/L elsewhere. This drops the flag, preventing the enemy from returning it. You then have 20 seconds to pick it up again and repeat the process.
  2. 2
Defense: If not a sniper, defend from just outside your base entrance, retreating for health and ammo as needed, or from inside the enemy base entrance where enemies spawn vulnerable. Avoid flag-camping; hang outside the base for better recon.
  3. 3
Sniper Defense: Go to the roof and camp at the armor. This position offers a long ammo supply and control of the map, allowing teammates to move freely and making it difficult for enemies to leave their spawn. You can also target enemy flag carriers, but you'll need to T/L launch to the enemy base each time you return to your sniper position. Use the redeemer for last-chance defense against imminent captures.
  4. 4
Respawn T/L Launch: If you die and the enemy is about to capture, respawn, drop your T/L, and set up a hammer-launch towards the enemy base (aim at the blue redeemer platform). Let the hammer fully load, launch your T/L, and wait for it to land to reappear at the blue entrance hallway.
  5. 5
Ripper Usage: The ripper's secondary fire is excellent for knocking enemies off cliffs and for launching flag-carrying teammates back to base faster. You can also fire a secondary ripper at your T/L module from the spawn point to teleport to the top of the hill.
  6. 6
T/L Launching: CTF-ETERNALCAVE is ideal for T/L launching. Experiment with different spots around your base. Invisible ledges can be used as safety nets for quick travel to the center of the map. Narrow ledges around towers can be used for T/L ascents and drops when escaping via the roof.
  7. 7
Flag Capture from Enemy Roof: Grab the flag from the enemy base roof, go through the central teleporter, and throw your T/L to the ground below. Jump or dodge off the edge with the flag, activating your T/L as soon as you leave the floor. You will reappear on the ground unharmed with the flag falling after you. For advanced play, throw your T/L in the air and teleport onto the flag to catch it before it lands.
  8. 8
Movement: Learn to run backward without looking or use behindview when escaping with the flag to see the edge without turning around.

Map Overview:

CTF-ETERNALCAVE is a favorite CTF map with a symmetrical neutral zone but asymmetrical bases. The red team has a harder base to defend, though the shield-belt is closer. The map is low on ammo, so collect dropped guns.

  • Teams: 4v4
  • Powerups/Armor: Thigh Pads (2 - one in each base spawn-room), Shield-belt (in a corner of the upper level of the neutral zone)
Tips
  • To avoid dying when rocket-launching yourself from the roof, wear armor so you die upon splatting beside the keg, not when releasing rockets.
  • When leaving the enemy base, run up the hillside on your left for protection against enemies spawning at the sniper rifle.
  • Drop the flag in a hidden spot in the blue base before grabbing the flag to T/L back there instantly after a capture.
  • When defending, remember that enemies spawning outside the enemy base appear with no armor and either a ripper or sniper rifle, making them vulnerable to shock-combos or rocket spreads.
  • Hang around outside the enemy base for better recon rather than flag-camping.
  • If you're a sniper, your ammo will last a long time on the roof, allowing you to control the map.
  • Keep a redeemer on your person for last-chance defense if an enemy capture seems imminent.
  • Use the ripper's secondary fire to knock enemies off cliffs or launch teammates faster.
  • Experiment with T/L launching around your base.
  • Use narrow ledges around towers as staircases for T/L ascents and drops.
  • When capturing the flag from the enemy roof, activate your T/L as soon as your feet leave the floor to reappear unharmed.
  • Use behindview when escaping with the flag to see the edge without turning around.
