Learn how to repair your gear in Diablo IV. Durability loss occurs upon death, making repairs essential to keep your equipment functional. Service unlocks at Lv10.

Durability in Diablo 4 primarily serves as a death penalty. When you die, your gear loses durability and will eventually become useless if not repaired. This service unlocks at Level 10. Visit a blacksmith and navigate to the “Repair” tab to repair a single item, all equipped gear, or all your possessions.

You can upgrade gear by expending resources gained from salvaging unwanted items. The ability to upgrade gear also unlocks at Level 10. Talk to the blacksmith and access the “Upgrade Gear” tab. Upgrading increases a gear's core stats (Attack Power and Armor) and the effectiveness of its modifiers. While individual upgrades yield minor results, fully upgrading multiple items can provide a significant edge.

The cost of gold and resources for upgrades varies based on the gear's quality and type, increasing significantly with each upgrade. The first two upgrades are generally inexpensive, but the last two can be costly. For end-game gear, it's often better to wait for superior drops. Resources for upgrading typically match the type and rarity of the equipment you salvage. For instance, rare armor requires salvaging rare armor. Resources can also be obtained from enemies or the environment.
