Hidden Tax

Follow this guide to complete the Hidden Tax quest in Assassin's Creed Origins. Find Ebio, sail to the island, rescue Klaudios, and defeat the thugs.

Alright, so you're looking to tackle the 'Hidden Tax' quest in Assassin's Creed Origins. It's a pretty straightforward one, kicking off in Yamu's market. You'll find a woman named Ebio looking for help. Her husband, Klaudios, went missing while exploring some island ruins east of Yamu. Chat with her, accept the quest, and then head east from Ebio's spot to find some boats. Trust me, taking a boat is way better than swimming through waters packed with hippos and crocodiles!

Once you're on a boat, press [Triangle] or [Y] to commandeer it. You'll steer with the [Left Analog]. To sail faster, hold down [R2] or [RT], and to stop rowing, hold [Circle] or [B]. Quick tip: you can aim your bow with [L2] or [LT] while steering, so you can take potshots without leaving your captain's seat.

Sail east towards the search area, which covers most of a big island nearby. When you're close enough, deploy Senu. Use her golden reticle to spot your target. You'll also see Hard Leather resource markers floating in the water. These come from hippos (3 Hard Leather) or crocodiles (4 Hard Leather). Don't let their reputation scare you; if you're leveled up and geared well, two headshots should do them in. However, a mad hippo can wreck your boat fast, and two crocodiles can lock you down until you're dead, so stay sharp!

Senu will spot Klaudios on a pillar, with crocodiles nearby. As you get closer, an Eradication Zone event starts, meaning you've got to clear out those crocodiles in the water. It's best to keep your distance and use a Predator Bow if you have one. After you've dealt with them, make sure to loot their Hard Leather if you're looking to upgrade your Breastplate. You can also dive down to find a submerged red chest. If you want to be efficient, sync with the nearby fast travel point on the island's north end. Once that's done, sail over to Klaudios's pillar and have a chat with the very drunk man.

After your chat, hop back in your boat. Klaudios will follow you, rambling the whole way back to Yamu. He's pretty out of it, and his memory is shot. When you get back to Yamu, talk to his wife. Klaudios will then suddenly remember why he went to the island. Just as you think it's over, the woman's angry brothers will show up, ready to collect what they think they're owed. You'll have to fight them off. Don't let them intimidate you just because they're using their fists – you can use your weapons! After the fight, the woman will protest, and hopefully, Klaudios will have learned his lesson about drinking with strangers.
