Paying Off Your 2nd Loan

Learn how to pay off your 98,000 Bell home loan in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Discover tips for earning Bells quickly by selling weeds, creatures, and more.

After upgrading from your tent to a house in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you'll likely find it a bit cramped. To pay off the debt on your new home, you need to gather 98,000 Bells. While this may seem like a lot, it's achievable within your first few days on the island.

How to Earn Bells:

1. Weeding: Collect weeds from your island and sell them to Timmy at Resident Services or Nook's Cranny. Each weed sells for 10 Bells.
2. Selling Creatures: After donating the first of each creature to Blathers, sell any duplicates. Larger and rarer fish and bugs generally fetch higher prices. This is a highly effective early-game method.
3. Money Rock: Each day, one rock on your island will yield Bells instead of materials. Hit it the maximum number of times (up to 16,000 Bells) by digging three holes behind you to prevent recoil.
4. Yellow Balloons: Shoot down yellow balloons with a slingshot (purchased from Nook's Cranny) for a chance to find up to 50,000 Bells.
5. Golden Cracks: Each day, a golden crack appears in the ground. Digging it up yields 1,000 Bells. For a greater return, replant the Bells into the hole to grow a Money Tree that yields 3,000 Bells after three days. You can increase the yield by planting more Bells, up to 10,000, for a potential 30,000 Bell return.
6. Selling Furniture: Shake trees to find furniture items (up to two per day) and sell any you don't like.
7. Planting Fruit Trees: Plant non-native fruit sent by your mom or found on mystery islands. Each fruit sells for 500 Bells. You can also dig up entire trees (after eating a piece of fruit) and replant them on your island.

Paying off the Debt:

Once you have the 98,000 Bells, go to the Nookstop in Resident Services. Select the ABD option and choose to pay off your loan. You can pay the full amount at once or make gradual payments.

Speak to Tom Nook:

After paying off your loan, speak to Tom Nook. He will congratulate you and offer to upgrade your house for 198,000 Bells. You can also choose a new roof color. Your upgraded home will be ready the next day.
