Learn how to customize furniture in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Tom Nook teaches you the basics, including using customization kits and choosing colors and patterns.
So, you've had a few villagers move in and Tom Nook is ready to teach you a cool new trick: customizing furniture! It's a fantastic way to make your island home feel truly unique. Let's dive into how this workshop works.
Walkthrough
- 1First things first, head over to Resident Services and chat with Tom Nook. You'll want to select the option that says About that workshop…. He'll then kick off the tutorial for you.
- 2The key to customization is using customization kits. You'll need a certain amount for each item, and it usually depends on how big the item is. Don't worry, Tom Nook will give you some to start with!
- 3Tom Nook will ask you to make and then customize a wooden wardrobe. He'll send you the DIY recipe for it. To craft it, you'll need 12 pieces of regular wood. So, go chop down some trees until you've got enough.
- 4Once you've got the wood, head back to Resident Services and craft the wardrobe at a workbench. After it's made, step away from the workbench and then select the wardrobe again.
- 5Tom Nook will then hand over some customization kits. For the wooden wardrobe, you'll need 2 kits. Luckily, he gives you a generous 50 to get you started!
- 6Now for the fun part: customizing! The wooden furniture set has 8 different colors to choose from. You can go for classic wood tones or pick something more vibrant like blue, pink, or green. Just pick your favorite and confirm the customization by pressing the + button.
Tips
- If you find yourself running low on customization kits later on, you can buy more from the cabinet in the back of Nook's Cranny.
- Not all furniture can be customized, especially most items you buy directly. However, items with fabric are usually fair game! You'll often be able to change the pattern or even use your own custom designs for the fabric parts.
- Keep an eye out for a little paintbrush symbol on DIY recipes. If you see that, it means the item is customizable!
- Frying Pan: You can customize this by buying the DIY for Beginners set from Nook's Cranny (it costs 2 iron nuggets to craft). Customizing the frying pan lets you choose what food is cooking in it – think vegetables, ratatouille, or even burnt food! This costs 2 customization kits.
- Pot or Classic Pitcher: If you've helped furnish island homes, you might already have the DIY for these. They only require 5 clay to make. Both the pot and pitcher are great examples where you can change the color and pattern, completely altering the item's style. This also costs 2 customization kits.
- Wooden Bed: This is a perfect example of how fabric customization works. You can change the color of the bed frame itself, and then choose different fabrics for the bedding. Plus, you can even use your own custom designs for the bedding!
