Learn how to visit other players' islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons using Local Play or Online Play with Dodo Codes. Includes essential multiplayer etiquette.
This page is a guide on how to visit other players’ islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
I Wanna Fly!
To begin visiting another island, head over to Orville at the reception desk in your Airport. Select the option I wanna fly, then choose I wanna visit someone. You can then select either local play or online play.
Local Play
If you choose local play, Orville will switch off your internet. This option allows you to search for the island of a local player. This typically requires you to be in the same room or building as the other player, as it does not use Wi-Fi.
Online Play
Most players use Online Play to visit friends’ islands. You can either look for open airports for your friends’ islands or type in a Dodo Code™.
- Friends: To visit a friend's island, you need to be Switch friends by exchanging friend codes, found on your Switch account profile.
- Dodo Code™: To enter another player’s island using a Dodo Code, you must be given a valid code by the host. The host can specify if the code is for friends only or for anyone.
Animal Crossing Etiquette
When visiting another player (who isn’t your friend), especially for events like turnip selling or cataloging, follow these etiquette rules:
- Don’t Give Out the Dodo Code to Other People: The host gives you the code to control access. Sharing it without permission breaks trust and is disrespectful. Always ask permission to share a code.
- Never “Leave Quietly”: Leaving via the - button can cause the host to lose items and may lead to temporary game crashes. Always leave via the airport by speaking to Orville.
- Don’t Linger!: If you are on a stranger’s island for a specific purpose (like trading or shopping), leave promptly after you are done. Lingering to fish, talk to villagers, or wander can hold up queues for other visitors. If you wish to do these activities, always ask the host for permission first.
- Respect their Island!: Do not trample flowers, pick fruit, or steal items. Be respectful of the host’s island.
