The Brawler is a powerful unit in Total Annihilation that utilizes a dual energy gun, similar to the Peewee or Flash. It functions more like a helicopter, with the unique ability to 'hover' around its target while attacking. This hovering capability makes it excellent for situations requiring quick results, particularly against ground and sea targets.

However, this hovering also makes the Brawler more vulnerable to being shot down, especially by missile fire which can negate its dodging ability. Fighters also pose a significant threat due to their high speed, often preventing the Brawler from getting a return shot.

Despite these vulnerabilities, the Brawler is considered highly effective, especially against laser towers. A squad of five Brawlers can quickly demolish most base defenses. Many players find them more useful than the Phoenix unit.
