Learn how to survive the initial onslaught and capture enemy installations in Total Annihilation's Beachhead on Thalassean mission.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Immediately blast the small AKs (Assault Kills) and capture all enemy installations on the island.
  2. 2
Be prepared for forest fires caused by enemy destroyers; you can stand outside the forest to avoid damage.
  3. 3
Turn on unit health/assignment numbers by pressing Alt + ~ to monitor building repair needs.
  4. 4
Send your commander into the water to capture scout boats that cannot shoot into the water.
  5. 5
Repair damaged buildings and the Galactic Gate (to at least 90%) to ensure base survival.
  6. 6
Explore the island with peewees (small scout vehicles) to find 2 ore locations.
  7. 7
Build a constructor bot and queue it to build ore extractors on the found ore locations.
  8. 8
When destroyers attack, use your commander's D gun (a powerful direct-fire weapon) to fight them off.
  9. 9
Have builder bots construct a vehicle plant and a ship harbor as early as possible.
  10. 10
Build a radar (your minimap with nearby blips and threats marked) tower on the south side of the hill on the top right part of the island to detect approaching destroyers.
  11. 11
    Build a ship construction unit.
  12. 12
Construct 2 torpedo launchers and a submarine to defend the harbor. Place torpedo launchers on the edges of the shoreline.
  13. 13
Add a sonar station in the middle of the harbor and another at its mouth to assist torpedoes.
Tips
  • The commander is crucial; use him to lure destroyers to the edge of the shore into D cannon range, or even wade out to get their attention before retreating.
  • Ensure sufficient power by building windmills and solar collectors, especially when using the commander's D cannon extensively.
  • Metal is scarce; risk your commander by reclaiming shipwrecks in the water if necessary, but note that he will stop extracting if your metal supply is full and you do not have storage buildings until mission 7.
  • Custom guide your ships by individually moving them for better placement, as the ship movement AI is weak and can cause collisions.
  • Laser turrets are generally ineffective unless ships get very close, so do not rely on them unless luring enemies.
  • Plasma turrets are not recommended due to metal shortages and the risk of them being destroyed before completion.
  • Enemy ships' radar may only detect structures taller than surrounding trees, such as windmills and extractors.
  • Use the D cannon to clear trees that obstruct building placement.
