[10-2-14] 14. Scouring Rougpelt

Learn how to defend your ARM base against relentless waves of Invaders and ARM forces in Total Annihilation's Scouring Rougpelt mission. Master defensive structures and strategic bombers.

Alright, so you've landed in this depression for the Scouring Rougpelt mission, and it's a bit of a double-edged sword. It's great because the ARM forces can only really come at you from the south and east, meaning you can set up some killer defensive positions. The downside? If you're not careful, your own defenses might end up just blasting the cliff walls instead of the enemy!

The ARM guys are gonna hit you in waves, so your absolute first priority should be getting a radar tower up – an advanced one if you can swing it. Then, you'll want to set up a solid defense at each approach. Think multiple missile towers, backed up by a light laser tower, and at least one or two heavy laser towers. If you're running low on power, those two thermal vents nearby are your best friends. Once you've got those sorted, slap down some metal makers to boost your income.

Right at the start, you'll notice the area is crawling with Invaders. Take them out ASAP before they even think about moving.

When the main ARM waves start rolling in, expect to see Fidos, Zippers, Bulldogs, Rockos, Samsons, and more. A few Brawlers might even make a beeline for your Commander, but your missile towers should handle them easily enough.

Here's a cool trick for this mission: you can build an advanced aircraft plant. Seriously, try to get one up and then churn out about five or six strategic bombers, maybe more if you've got the metal. These bombers are game-changers. See a big enemy column marching your way? Send your bombers in. If they're lucky enough to be in single file, your bombers will absolutely shred them. Plus, their lasers will just keep hammering away at the helpless foes. If things are quiet and no immediate threats are around, send your bombers out to the edges of the map to hunt down any enemy forces you might have missed or that haven't activated yet.

Keep an eye out for radar jammers – they can hide enemy forces. If the mission isn't ending and you're scratching your head, send your planes out to do a sweep. The final wave is no joke; it comes from three directions at once. But with some smart use of your D-gun, you can hold them off.
