Why?

Discover and correct the numerous errors and misinformation found in the Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition instruction booklet, from weapon names to ammo counts and enemy appearances.

Hey there! So, you've probably noticed that the instruction booklet that came with Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition isn't exactly a perfect guide. Turns out, there are a bunch of little errors and bits of misinformation in there. Let's clear some of that up so you're not confused when you jump into the game.

Why this guide? Because the official booklet gets a few things wrong, and it's good to know the real deal straight from the game itself.

• Weapon Names: That awesome gun you get, the one that sounds like it's chewing up the scenery? The manual calls it the 'Ripper,' but in the game, it's actually the 'Chaingun Cannon.' Stick with the in-game name!
• Ammo Appearance: Speaking of the Chaingun Cannon, its ammo icon in the manual looks a bit thinner than the actual ammo you'll see in Duke Nukem 3D. Don't sweat it, just know the in-game look is the correct one.
• Devastator Ammo: The booklet claims the Devastator gives you 50 ammo rounds. Nope! In the game, you only get 25 ammo per pickup. Keep that in mind when you're scavenging for firepower.
• Freezer Ammo: Similar to the Devastator, the manual says Freezer Ammo gives you 50 units. Again, the game corrects this, giving you only 25 ammo per pickup.
• Medikit Appearance: That small medikit you grab to keep Duke alive? The picture in the booklet doesn't quite match how it looks in the game. It's a minor thing, but hey, accuracy matters!
• Pig Cop's Weapon: The Pig Cop in the guide looks like it's packing a submachine gun or something similar. In reality, the Pig Cop you fight uses a Shotgun. So, expect that blast up close!
• Enforcer's Dropped Item: The booklet mentions that the Enforcer can drop its 'armored breastplate' when defeated. This just doesn't happen in the game. Don't go looking for it!
• Assault Commander's Drop: Similarly, the guide states the Assault Commander can drop RPG ammo. This is another inaccuracy; they don't drop RPG ammo in the game.
• Status Bar Screenshot: There's a screenshot on page 12 showing the ammo status bar. Noticeably absent is the '0' for the Freezer ammo, implying it's not there. It's just a weird omission in the screenshot, as you absolutely can have Freezer ammo.
• Map Credits: The inside sleeve of the Atomic Edition boasts map design solely by Randall S. Pitchford II. However, digging into the game files and credits reveals many more talented individuals who actually created the maps. For the full list, you'll want to check out section 07-04-04.
• Duke Team Photo: Lastly, there's a different photo of the Duke Team featured in the instruction booklet compared to what you might expect. It's just another little discrepancy to note.
