Master Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.0's Armor and Cyberware systems. Learn about Cyberware Capacity, system slots, upgrades, and how to increase your armor rating.
Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.0 overhauls the Armor and Cyberware systems, introducing Cyberware Capacity and integrating armor directly into cyberware. This guide explains the new mechanics.
Cyberware Capacity 2.0
Cyberware Capacity is a new stat displayed on the left of your screen, indicating how much cyberware your body can handle. Unlike before, you must now strategically choose cyberware that fits your build and stays within your capacity limits.
Cyberware Capacity increases gradually as you level up, but eventually hits a cap. To further increase it, invest in the Renaissance Punk and Edgerunner perks.
Increasing Cyberware Capacity
Your initial capacity is low but grows with each level. The Technical skill tree offers crucial perks like Renaissance Punk and the powerful Edgerunner, which significantly boost capacity. Additionally, specific cyberware found in the Operating System category can further enhance your capacity.
Cyberware Systems
There are 10 distinct cyberware systems, each with its own slots and responsibilities:
- Operating System: Houses Cyberdecks for quickhacking, Berserk, and Sandevistan Systems.
- Frontal Cortex: Enhances quickhacks and reduces cooldowns.
- Face: Improves vision and highlights environmental clues.
- Arms: Features powerful melee cyberware and Projectile Launch Systems.
- Hands: Boosts ranged combat skills.
- Skeleton: Increases armor and overall defense.
- Circulatory System: Affects health and stamina regeneration.
- Nervous System: Influences detection and time-slowing effects.
- Legs: Improves mobility and provides slight armor.
- Integumentary System: Enhances armor and damage reduction.
Cyberware is categorized by the system it belongs to. For instance, Skeleton system cyberware focuses on defense, while Frontal Cortex cyberware improves quickhacking. This system allows for focused builds, letting you ignore irrelevant systems to save valuable cyberware capacity.
Upgrading Cyberware
Most cyberware can be upgraded at a Ripperdoc. Look for a small upward arrow on the cyberware icon. Upgrades come in five tiers (1-5), each requiring higher-tier components. Upgrading adds stat modifiers, and the number of modifiers per piece can be increased to a maximum of three by taking the Driver Update and Chipware Connoisseur perks in the Technical tree. The maximum percentage for each stat can be further increased by upgrading the All Things Cyber perk for an additional 20%.
Armor 2.0
The old armor system, which involved equipping clothing in multiple slots, has been replaced and integrated with cyberware. The new system is largely cosmetic, though some clothing pieces offer minor upgrades.
Armor is now represented by a large blue vertical bar on the right side of the Cyberware screen. The higher this bar, the more damage reduction you receive. This applies to all damage types except damage-over-time effects.
How to Increase Your Armor in 2.0
To increase your armor rating, equip cyberware primarily into the Skeleton and Integumentary Systems, as these are designed for armor. The Legs system also contributes slightly. The amount of armor added by a piece of cyberware is indicated by an armor icon with a number next to it; cyberware without this icon does not contribute to armor.
Your armor rating is capped until you invest perk points into the License to Chrome perk in the Technical skill tree. This perk not only raises the cap but also adds +40 armor at Rank 2 and unlocks an additional cyberware slot for the Skeleton System at Rank 3.
