Technical Ability

Learn about the Technical Ability attribute in cyberpunk 2077, increasing armor by 5% per level and governing Crafting and Engineering skills.

Technical Ability represents your technical know-how. It allows you to unlock doors and use Tech weapons. Each increase in level will increase your armor by 5%. Your Technical Ability attribute also determines the maximum level your Crafting and Engineering skills can reach. Like Intelligence and Cool, Technical Ability only has two skills it governs: Crafting and Engineering. Crafting determines what you can craft and how well and efficiently you can craft it. Engineering largely includes grenade-related perks, and perks that influence how Power, Tech, and Smart weapons work, with a heavy focus on Tech weapons.

Your Technical Ability also influences what cyberware you can equip. Generally, cyberware with Technical Ability requirements are underwhelming. Examples include Microgenerators, which shock enemies when your Health is low; Feedback Circuits, which restore Health when you charge a Tech weapon; and Mechatronic Cores, which increase the damage you deal to drones, mechs, and robots.

Consider investing in Technical Ability if you like throwing grenades, plan to make good use of Tech weapons, or if you just want to be able to craft your way to supremacy. Be mindful that a significant investment in Technical Ability mostly benefits convenience, not raw power, as legendary weapons can be purchased, money is easy to obtain, and the effects of most armor mods are dubious, except for the Armadillo mod (a community-made modification that changes the game), which requires no investment in Crafting.
