Follow our detailed walkthrough for Cyrus' Chapter 3 in Octopath Traveler. Includes strategies for Yvon's Cellar, boss fight tips, item locations, and more.
Walkthrough
- 1Having found a translated copy of "From the Far Reaches of Hell" at the end of the previous chapter, Cyrus heads to Stonegard to investigate the book's bindery. Enter the large building to the right of the tavern and use Scrutinize on the NPC there. You'll learn that an employee sold the book to Dominic, a translator living on the east side of town.
- 2Head east to Dominic's house, located before Stonegard Valleys. Since Dominic is unwilling to see visitors, Cyrus decides to gather information by Scrutinizing NPCs. Scrutinize the NPC in front of Dominic's house, the NPC inside the small house next to his, and the NPC on the stairs in Stonegard Valleys (eastern part of town, near the exit next to Dominic's house).
- 3Return to Dominic's house for a scene. You will be asked two questions. If you paid attention to the clues gathered, the correct answers are "His daughter" and "Translating a book."
- 4Dominic reveals that Headmaster Yvon commissioned the book fifteen years ago. After more events, you will head to Yvon's house in the northern part of town. Take the stairs in the first part of town; Yvon's house will be straight ahead.
- 5You will fall into a trap inside Yvon's house. Upon regaining control, open the chest for a Bone. Walk around until you get a prompt to investigate further or wait and see. Choose to wait and see; someone will rescue you.
- 6After climbing out of the hole, Yvon takes your rescuer hostage. The dungeon entrance is in the basement on the west side of the house. Before heading down, climb the stairs to the east and go to the room in the northwest corner to find a chest containing an Inspiriting Plum.
- 7Now, descend into the basement (Yvon's Cellar).
Yvon’s Cellar
- Upon entering, you can go left or right. There is also a chest below you. Head left first to a dead end with a chest containing a Light Soulstone L. A secret passage next to this chest leads to the area below where you started, containing 12,000 Leaves.
- Return to the beginning and head right. Enter the room north of the stairs. There is nothing in the room itself, but a doorway on the opposite end leads to a chest containing a Bright Stone.
- Descend the stairs in front of the room you just exited. Loot the chest to the right for an Energizing Pomegranate M.
- At the bottom, continue west. Ignore the first room and enter the second for a chest containing a Fire Soulstone M.
- Bypass the stairs and enter the first of two rooms west of them. This room contains a purple chest with a Sturdy Quartz Rod.
- Climb the stairs you passed earlier. Enter the room at the top for a chest with an Inspiriting Plum Basket.
- To the west of this room is a save point and the boss.
BOSS - Yvon
Yvon undergoes a grotesque transformation and is accompanied by two Research Fellows. Yvon's attacks are strong, and his companions add significant damage. Ensure your equipment is updated before the fight.
Stats / Weaknesses:
- Research Fellows: Weak to spears, axes, lightning, dark. 4 Shields. ~12,000 HP.
- Yvon (Initial): Weak to daggers, staves, light. 3 Shields.
- Yvon (After 1st Break): Weak to daggers, staves, light, fire. 5 Shields.
- Yvon (After 2nd Break): Weak to daggers, staves, light, fire, ice. 8 Shields.
- Yvon (After 3rd Break): Weak to daggers, staves, light, fire, ice. 12 Shields.
Phases:
- Phase 1: Yvon and two Research Fellows. Focus on defeating the Research Fellows quickly using their weaknesses (spears, axes, lightning, dark). Scholars and Warriors can use multi-hit attacks like Lightning Blast and Thousand Spears.
- Phase 2: Yvon alone. Yvon uses Physical Augmentation to boost his attack and defense. Use Thief's Shackle Foe to cancel the buff and reduce incoming damage. Yvon's attacks include Intimidate (single target damage + Silence) and Thrash (party damage).
Strategy:
- Prioritize eliminating the Research Fellows to reduce incoming damage.
- Use Shackle Foe on Yvon to debuff his attack and defense.
- Exploit Yvon's changing elemental weaknesses (fire and ice) after he is broken.
- Be mindful of Silence from Intimidate, especially for your Cleric.
- Ensure your party is well-equipped, as Yvon's attacks can be devastating.
