Alfyn's Third Chapter

Follow this comprehensive guide to conquer Alfyn's Chapter 3 in Octopath Traveler, including detailed walkthroughs for Rivira Woods and the challenging boss fight against Miguel.

Walkthrough: Rivira Woods

1. Immediately upon entering Rivira Woods, you'll find a save point at a crossroads. Head north.
2. To your right, find a chest containing Purifying Dust.
3. Continue north to find a purple chest containing Gaolbreaker.
4. Take the path leading west nearby. You'll find another chest containing Refreshing Jam.
5. Return to the initial crossroads and head west.
6. At the next four-way split, go east to find a chest containing a Silver-filled Pouch near the save point.
7. Return to the last split and go west to a dead end with a chest containing Injurious Dust.
8. Head north from the previous crossroad.
9. Follow the path north until you spot a path moving northwest, leading to a chest with Purifying Seed.
10. Continue north a bit more, then venture west on the path just south of the previously found chest.
11. When you can turn south, do so, then turn right at the first opportunity to find a purple chest containing an Ice Amulet.
12. Back on the main path, head west to find a save point to your north. Ignore it for now and head straight south.
13. Follow the southern trail until you see a path to the west. At the end of this path is a chest with an Energizing Pomegranate (L).
14. Double back to the save point, heal, and move left to find Miguel.

BOSS - Miguel

Miguel can be a challenging boss. He starts with two actions per turn. All his attacks are physical, so physical defense buffs are recommended. He can also debuff your party's physical attack and defense with Twin Spears (hits one character twice) and Cross Spear (hits entire party twice). Hurl Spear causes spears to randomly fall on your characters for medium damage on the following turn.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Miguel has 7 shields and does not gain more.
• His weaknesses change upon recovery from a break.
• He has four weakness sets, cycling in order:
• Set 1: Sword, Bow, Wind, Light
• Set 2: Spear, Dagger, Fire, Light
• Set 3: Axe, Staff, Ice, Lightning
• Set 4: Sword, Axe, Fire, Lightning
• Weaknesses are revealed between sets.

Phases:

1. Start: 2 actions per turn. Weaknesses: Sword, Bow, Wind, Light.
2. After 1st Break: Weaknesses change to Spear, Dagger, Fire, Light.
3. After 2nd Break: Weaknesses change to Axe, Staff, Ice, Lightning.
4. After 3rd Break: Weaknesses change to Sword, Axe, Fire, Lightning.
5. 50% HP (Yellow Name): Gains 5 actions per turn (can be brutal). Weaknesses continue to cycle.
6. 25% HP (Red Name): Gains 5 actions per turn for one turn. Uses Drink Medicine (heals ~5,600 HP), then Storm of Spears (similar to Hurl Spear but more intense). Weaknesses continue to cycle.

Strategy:

• Use a Merchant's Hired Help for physical defense buffs.
• Use a Thief's Shackle Foe to debuff Miguel's physical attack.
• Leghold Trap is effective, especially at 50% HP and below, to delay his actions and increase break opportunities.
• This fight can be an equipment check; good equipment is more important than levels.
• Focus on breaking Miguel to negate his action advantage.
