Walkthrough for The Caves of Maiya in Octopath Traveler, including item locations, boss fight strategy against Mikk and Makk, and side quest information.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Path to the Caves of Maiya: Encounter random battles. At the first fork, head south for a Healing Grape. Further west, another southern path leads to an Inspiriting Plum. Continue west, cross a bridge, and look north for a Herb of Clarity. Venture south at the western end, open the chest under the bridge to your east for a Healing Grape, then proceed west to the pirates' den.
  2. 2
Exploring the Caves of Maiya: Meet a pirate's lackey to initiate Tressa's plan. Head west inside the cave to find a path with 1,000 Leaves. Return towards the entrance and go south from the sleeping pirate for another chest. Continue past him to a third pirate, then go north for a Healing Grape.
  3. 3
Past the third pirate, find a dock with a chest containing an Inspiriting Plum. Continue west to a split; head northeast for a Thunder Soulstone. Northwest leads to a save point and a merchant. A final chest to the northeast can be reached by entering a small doorway west of the stairs, containing a Refreshing Jam. Save your game and climb the stairs for the boss battle.
  4. 4
BOSS - Mikk and Makk: This is a two-on-one fight. Focus on one boss at a time. Mikk is stronger. Attacks include single-target Attack and Slice, and AoE Mutiny. 'Me mate’s got me back!' allows one boss to cover the other. Defeating one buffs the survivor's physical attack and defense.
  5. 5
When one boss uses “Ye scurvy lubbers,” expect Pirate’s Pride, an AoE attack dealing 100+ damage even when defending (if buffed).
  6. 6
Mikk is weak to spears, axes, lightning, and wind. Makk is weak to bows, staves, fire, and wind.
  7. 7
Before defeating either boss, use Tressa's Collect to steal money (up to 1,200 Leaves each).
  8. 8
After defeating Mikk, focus on Makk. Keep an eye on your health.
  9. 9
Upon victory, a scene plays, and you return to Rippletide. Tressa chooses a diary. Head home for more scenes, then exit Rippletide east to begin Tressa's journey.
  10. 10
Sidequesting I: Return to Rippletide to find new NPCs and two orange stars (Side Stories).
  11. 11
Complete 'Le Mann, Explorer Extraordinaire (I)' by finding Le Mann at the docks.
  12. 12
Head to the beginning of the docks and use Path Actions (Purchase/Steal) on the Antique Dealer to get the Adventurer’s Attire.
  13. 13
Bring the attire back to Le Mann.
Tips
  • Use Tressa's Collect skill to steal money from Mikk and Makk, especially when their HP is low.
  • Prioritize defeating Mikk first as he is the stronger opponent.
  • Ensure your party has weapons that exploit the bosses' weaknesses (spears, axes, lightning, wind for Mikk; bows, staves, fire, wind for Makk).
  • Be prepared for Pirate's Pride, which hits hard even when defending.
  • The 'Le Mann, Explorer Extraordinaire (I)' side story can be completed immediately by purchasing or stealing the Adventurer's Attire from the Antique Dealer in Rippletide.
  • Le Mann, Explorer Extraordinaire (I) completion: 1,500 Leaves, Fortifying Nut.
