Hunt the Bazelgeuse in monster hunter world's Elder's Recess. Learn its explosive scale attacks and Thunder weakness.

The Bazelgeuse is a flighty monster that travels a lot and can quickly traverse areas mid-flight. In this quest, it can be found on the heights of AREA 4, but will also fly to AREAS 2, 3, and 9.

The main armament of the Bazelgeuse are its explosive scales, which it deploys and detonates with its body or fiery breath. It sheds bombs from its neck and tail, detonating them by slamming its head down. Unlike the Uragaan, the Bazelgeuse actively employs its bomb-scales during attacks, making them more predictable, though randomly-shed scales can still be a nuisance. The four clusters of explosive scales are under each wing, on the underside of its neck, and on its tail. Severing the tail will reduce the amount of bomb scales it drops and make attacking its rear easier. Its attacks include dropping scales from its neck or tail before charging, flopping down, or slamming its tail onto them, causing them to explode. The Bazelgeuse is a Flying Wyvern type monster with typical attacks like charge-back-and-forth, tail sweeps (with explosive scales), flying leaps followed by ground slams (also with explosive scales if the tail isn't severed), and side rushes. It can also slam its head into the ground before a charge attack and breathe short-ranged fire primarily used to detonate scales.

The most dangerous attack involves the Bazelgeuse taking to the air, flying in a line shedding scales, circling around, and diving onto the ground, sliding over its scales to cause a series of explosions. This diving charge attack is massively damaging, and the accompanying explosions make it tricky to track the monster and avoid the scales. Using a Flash Pod while it's flying is an ideal counter.

When enraged, the Bazelgeuse's scales will glow ominously. Its attacks become faster, and the explosive scales come pre-charged, detonating shortly after hitting the ground. The glowing orange scales provide a better visual cue to get away. Its bomber attack becomes an active bombing run.

Despite being one of the last new monsters before Elder Dragons, the Bazelgeuse can be captured.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Target the Bazelgeuse's head, wings, and tail, as these are breakable or severable and house clusters of explosive scales.
  2. 2
The head takes the most damage overall.
  3. 3
The wings are particularly weak to Ammo damage.
  4. 4
The tail is likely the safest target for melee characters.
  5. 5
Attack from the rear, targeting the tail first, then the stub when severed.
  6. 6
    Don't be greedy with attacks.
  7. 7
Be ready to roll away when explosive scales are dropped.
  8. 8
Use Thunder element attacks, as the Bazelgeuse is weak to Thunder and resistant to Fire.
  9. 9
The Bazelgeuse is most resilient to Blast and Stun ailments.
  10. 10
When the Bazelgeuse takes to the air for its bomber attack, use a Flash Pod.
Tips
  • Severing the tail limits the amount of explosive scales it can discharge.
  • The head is the most vulnerable part overall.
  • Ranged characters should target the wings.
  • When enraged, the glowing orange bomb scales provide a better visual cue to escape.
  • Learn the timing of the delayed explosions accompanying many of its attacks.
