Jagras of the Ancient Forest

Alright, so you've landed in the Ancient Forest and The Handler's going to give you the rundown on how to complete quests. Basically, you just gotta do the thing they tell you to do. She'll mark the Jagras you saw earlier on your map. Then, she'll point you to the Supply Box. Every camp has one, and it's packed with free stuff you'll need for the mission. Definitely grab the First-aid Meds and EZ Rations from it – they'll keep your Health and Stamina topped up. It's always better to use these freebies than to dip into your own supplies!

The game starts off pretty gently, showing you exactly where to go. Thankfully, the Field Team Leader will tag along for your first real mission, so you won't be totally on your own. As you move, the game will give you a little nudge about items. You can check your Item Pouch anytime by hitting the [Options]/[Menu] button and looking under the 'Items and Equipment' tab. Your Item Bar, down in the bottom right, shows what you've got ready to go. Use the D-Pad to cycle through items and [Square]/[X] to use them.

For quicker access, hold down [L1]/[LB]. This brings up the radial menus, and you've got four of them you can customize later. For now, if you hold [L1]/[LB] and push up on the [Right Analog] stick, you can quickly use your Whetstone. It's super handy, so make sure you remember that.

You'll also want to keep an eye on your HUD. The time limit is up in the top left, near your Health and Stamina bars (those green and yellow diamonds). Down below those, you'll see info about your weapon, and even lower, your Palico's status. On the upper right, you'll find context-sensitive command prompts and your current objectives. And don't forget the mini-map in the bottom left!

Hunting Jagras

You're starting this mission from the Southwest Camp, the same spot you first arrived in the New World. Head northeast, following the same path you took before, until you reach the river-crossed lowlands. You'll see some docile Aptonoths chilling there – just ignore them. Your goal is to meet up with the Field Team Leader. Follow him north; he'll lead you to a vine-covered area, and beyond that is where the Jagras hang out.

Once you enter the Jagras' lair, it's time to get your fight on. Don't sweat it too much; these guys aren't exactly boss monsters, especially now that you're geared up. Take down as many as you can. If they try to run, chase 'em down and carve up their bodies for some useful monster parts. Keep pushing deeper into their lair, where you'll find more of them. You need to hunt down seven Jagras in total. After you've got your seven, loot everything you can before the quest officially wraps up. You'll get extra quest rewards on top of everything you've already picked up. After stashing or selling your loot, you'll see even more rewards, and your Palico will get some experience based on its performance during the hunt.
