Learn how to defeat the Deviljho in Monster Hunter: World. Discover its weaknesses, strengths, attack patterns, and best strategies for this Brute Wyvern.

The Deviljho can be hunted in Monster Hunter: World if the game is patched to version 2.00 or greater. It appears in 6* and 7* quests, and can also be encountered during expeditions. Expeditions are recommended for tracking it down, as you can check which monsters are in each area. If you have discovered all other monsters, Deviljho will appear as "???" on the monster listing. Once spotted, return to Astera and speak with the Jovial Scholar (marked by a blue exclamation point) to begin its questline. You will need to gather enough Research Points by searching for its tracks to locate its lair. After reaching Research Level one, speak to the Jovial Scholar again to unlock the Special Assignment The Food Chain Dominator. Completing this quest unlocks the optional quest Today’s Special: Hunter Flambé.

General Information:

  • Type: Brute Wyvern
  • Quests: The Food Chain Dominator (7*), Today’s Special: Hunter Flambé (7*)
  • Variants: High Rank, Tempered (Threat Level 3)

Deviljho Strengths and Weaknesses

The Deviljho's head and belly take the most damage and are breakable. Its tail can also be severed. It is weak to Thunder and Dragon elements and not highly resistant to any element, though it is strongest against Ice. Deviljho is moderately susceptible to all ailments, so any ailment can be effective. It does not inflict ailments itself and infrequently uses its Dragon element breath attack. Defensive skills are not a high priority unless you wish to negate its roar or tremor effect from stomps. Focus on boosting offense and health. If using elemental weapons, carry Nulberries to counter Dragonblight from its breath weapon.

Deviljho Attacks

Deviljho has a unique attack where it seizes smaller monsters and flings them, using them to bludgeon hunters. A powerful strike or Flash Pod might deter this, but you can also let the monsters fight and collect dropped materials. Most of Deviljho's offense comes from its maw, with sweeping attacks and lunging bites. Some bites rake the ground, creating debris, and it can perform combinations of these attacks, including a three-bite and a five-bite combo. These attacks have varied ranges.

Staying under Deviljho, near its legs, can offer safety from bite attacks and allow you to hit its legs or vulnerable belly. However, its constant movement and quick attacks can flush you out. Be wary of its one-legged stomp, which causes a tremor that staggers hunters. Other attacks include a single tail sweep and a hip-rush. Its leaping attack covers significant distance, and if it hits, Deviljho will follow up with a bite, toss, and fling combo.

When enraged, Deviljho's head and neck muscles engorge, splitting the skin and turning red. It becomes more aggressive and gains a new attack: its breath weapon. This attack has a wide area of effect and utilizes the Dragon element.
