Rathian: Bestiary

The Rathian is a Flying Wyvern that players will encounter in Monster Hunter: World, though not as part of the main story. It becomes available after completing the assignment "One for the History Books." Key quests involving the Rathian include "Royal Relocation," "Gettin’ Yolked in the Forest" (for stealing eggs), and later, "Redefining the 'Power Couple.'" High Rank Rathian quests, such as "Brown Desert, Green Queen" and "The Sleeping Sylvan Queen," unlock after defeating the High Rank Pukei-Pukei. The "Special Arena: HR Rathian" quest also becomes available after defeating a High Rank Rathian.

The Rathian's head, wings, and tail are susceptible to damage, with the head being the most vulnerable. Its head, wings, and body can be broken, and its tail can be severed. The Rathian is resistant to Fire and resilient to Blast and Poison. It is vulnerable to Dragon damage and Stun.

The Rathian primarily stays on the ground, using its wings for movement between areas. Its most dangerous attack is a flipping tail strike, which can inflict Poison. Having Poison Resistance or Antidotes is recommended. The Rathian also breathes fire, and while Fire Resistance isn't essential, it can mitigate damage and prevent being set on fire at 20+ resistance.

Attacks:

• Aerial Spin: A vertical spin attack in the air that smashes the ground with its tail, inflicting Poison. This leaves the Rathian vulnerable upon landing.
• Fire Breath: Breathes a single blast or a succession of three fire blasts.
• Rushing Attack: Paces back and forth, dealing damage to anything in its path.
• Melee Attacks: Standard bites and tail sweeps.

Rathian Plates are rare drops in Low Rank, obtainable through carving, rewards, breaking parts, or severing the tail. High Rank Rathian Plates are less common, but High Rank versions can also drop Rathian Gems through similar methods.
