Learn about the Lavasioth Piscine Wyvern in monster hunter world, including its weaknesses, attacks, and rewards from quests like Lavasioth, Monster of Magma.

Lavasioth can be encountered during a mandatory expedition to the Elder’s Recess. After completing this expedition, you will receive the quest Lavasioth, Monster of Magma. You can also obtain the quest A Fiery Convergence from the Armory clerk, which requires hunting both a Lavasioth and an Uragaan. Lavasioth can appear in High Rank and Tempered (Threat Level 2) variants.

Lavasioth Strengths and Weaknesses

The head and belly of the Lavasioth are its most vulnerable areas. The head takes significant damage from all attack types, while the belly takes slightly less Blunt damage. The head, body, tail, and fin/legs are all breakable parts.

Similar to Jyuratodus, Lavasioth’s weaknesses shift depending on its magma coating. When coated in magma, its physical damage defenses are lowered, but it becomes resistant to Fire and weak to Water. Once the magma hardens, it becomes more resilient to physical attacks (weapons may bounce off), less resistant to Fire, and more resistant to Thunder and Ice, to which it was moderately vulnerable before. Its vulnerability to Water also decreases.

Lavasioth’s ailment resistances remain consistent regardless of its coating. It is always weak to Poison, somewhat susceptible to Paralysis and Stun, and not very receptive to Sleep or Blast.

Lavasioth Attacks

Lavasioth moves through rock and magma, exhibiting attack similarities to Jyuratodus. It frequently slithers on its belly, a slow, low-damage move that leaves a trail of damaging lava. Be aware that many areas, both from the monster's actions and the environment, can inflict damage if you stand on them. Lavasioth also performs belly flops to strike foes beneath it; watch for it standing on its fin-legs before these attacks.

Unlike Jyuratodus's mud spit, Lavasioth spits explosive magma globs, similar to Dodogama. These are generally easier to block. It can spit magma in succession, often after dipping in lava, or perform quick spits at any time. Lavasioth can also burrow through solid rock, surfacing to bite hunters. If you see its tail while it's burrowed, be alert for it to bound out of the rock and attempt to crush nearby foes, with both the launch and landing being damaging.

In addition to bites and tail lashes, Lavasioth's most dangerous attacks are fire-based. Its melee attacks are persistent but relatively weak; the monster aims to wear you down with multiple small attacks and environmental damage before finishing you with a magma blast. Fire Resistance is highly recommended, especially if your score can exceed twenty to prevent catching fire.

The Lavasioth has tough armor covering its back, limbs, and tail, leaving only its head and belly vulnerable. This armor causes most attacks to bounce off until the monster dips into lava. While submerged, it may be harder to reach and it might repeatedly spit magma, but the lava softens its armor. Renew your assault with vigor after it emerges, as your attacks will be more effective. The armor hardens again when exposed to air for a sufficient duration.
