Guild Wars 2 Part 33: Strategies for Spirit Shepherds, the Wailing Lord, and escorting Griffons. Learn how to defeat the Shadow army.
- 1Proceed through the forested area, being mindful of Spirit Shepherds who use lightning attacks and tend to appear in groups. Stay fanned out to avoid chain lightning.
- 2Watch out for Spiders emerging from trees, as they deal high damage and inflict status effects. Small worms will also appear.
- 3As you approach the Wailing Lord, Skeletal army members will emerge. Do NOT cross the bridge until all enemies in the immediate vicinity are defeated.
- 4If possible, attack the banshees from across the river with a longbow. Defeat them when they cross.
- 5If the Wailing Lord follows, do not attack or kill him.
- 6When you cross the bridge, two groups of Skeletal enemies on either side of the Wailing Lord will attack. This battle is difficult as they may pursue indefinitely.
- 7After the Banshees are dead, return to Rastigan for your reward.
- Stay fanned out to mitigate chain lightning damage from Spirit Shepherds.
- Be prepared for Spiders that inflict status effects and small worms.
- Crucially, do not cross the bridge until all enemies near the Wailing Lord are cleared.
- Try to engage banshees from a distance if possible.
Quest Starter: The Wailing Lord
Objective: Escort the 3 Griffons to Rastigan the Eternal in the Tower of Courage.
Difficulty and Comments: This quest is significantly harder than previously. Griffons will spawn along the path back to the Tower of Courage, along with about eight patrols of Skeletals. If ANY Griffon dies, you will fail the quest. The Griffons are level 24 and can die very quickly from focused fire, making it difficult for a single monk to monitor all three. Consider having them follow someone staying far behind, or use skills like Healing Seeds/Healing Hands and Protective Spirits to keep them alive. Do not run from encounters while the Griffons are following, as they will not.
Quest Starter: Kromril the Eternal
Objective: Defeat the Priest of Menzies and bring the unholy text it drops back to Kromril.
Difficulty and Comments: Do not accept this quest until the entire area is cleared of patrols. There are two Dragon Liches (level 30) and other enemies on a northeastern platform where the priest spawns. Clear about six groups of Skeletal Patrols (Bonds/Berserkers) and three or four stationary groups. After clearing the area near an encampment below a large hill, several NPCs will spawn; clear this immediate area before taking quests. Clear as far east as possible, including patrols near the small mountainous platform to the far east. Dragon Liches are level 30, deal significant damage, and inflict multiple conditions. Mend Ailment can heal for over 300 points against them. Once the area is clear, accept the quest, return, defeat the spawned enemies including the Priest of Menzies, collect the book, and return it to Kromril.
- Clear all Skeletal Patrols and stationary groups before accepting the quest.
- Be aware of the level 30 Dragon Liches and their damaging, condition-inflicting attacks.
- Mend Ailment can be very effective against the Dragon Liches.
Quest Starter: Eternal Weaponsmith
Objective: Clear the Temple of War of the Shadow army. Talk to the Eternal Forgemaster.
Difficulty and Comments: Assume most patrols have been cleared. Make your way southeast to the arrow. Engage and pull groups of warriors/beasts far away before killing them, as six Shadow Beasts spawn upon their death. Next, defeat two groups of Monks and Mesmers going up the hill. If Skeletal patrols are still present, you will have to deal with them. Inside the temple, there are eight groups of enemies: four stationary groups of two monks and two Mesmers, and four patrolling groups of two shadow beasts and two Abyssals. Take out the first patrol group at the door. Go clockwise, pulling groups as far as possible to avoid aggroing patrols. Continue this until all eight groups are cleared. At the top of the temple, eight rangers (two in each direction) and some Shadow Beasts will spawn. This part is difficult. Recommended strategy: one warrior goes up with a nuker behind, followed by two tanks to prevent enemies from running down. Casters should stand behind this wall, and the first warrior should remain in healing range. You may be unable to run until all beasts and several rangers are killed. Run back down the ramp if necessary; rangers will not pursue. Continue until all enemies are defeated, then the Forgemaster will spawn.
