The Ascalon area is now bruised and charred, with Ascalon City serving as the main hub. This city features a skill trainer, various merchants (including two armor dealers offering excellent early-game gear), but lacks a scroll merchant. Other notable towns in Ascalon include Sardelac Sanitarium, Serenity Temple, Fort Ranik, The Frontier Gate, Ruins of Surmia, Great Northern Wall, Nolani Academy, Piken Square, and the Grenich Courthouse.

Missions

All missions award 1000 experience points (XP) and 1 skill point. Each mission also includes a bonus objective that grants an additional 1000 XP. Missions are the primary method of game progression.

The Great Northern Wall [mis1]

Objective: Scout Bonfaaz Burntfur's army and report back to Captain Calhaan. The area is populated by Grawl and Devourers.

Bonus: Find the four pieces of Kilnn Testibrie's armor, located in wreckage between the first boss and the first Charr encounter. If you engage Charr before finding all pieces, backtrack to find them.

Fort Ranik [mis2]

Objective: Push back the Charr Army by defeating the boss Torch Spitfur. You can repair a catapult using wreckage to destroy a large Charr force, or potentially sneak past and use a second catapult to end the mission immediately.

Bonus: Save Deeter Saberlin from Charr imprisonment, guarded by two healers. Focus fire or disable their healing abilities. Master Armin Saberlin initiates this bonus shortly after the mission begins; ensure he survives until then.

Ruins of Surmia [mis3]

Objective: Safeguard Prince Rurik while rescuing captured Ascalon Soldiers. The initial part involves fighting Devourers. After a boss, follow Rurik as he charges the Charr. Rescue three groups of prisoners, each guarded by a boss and other enemies. Following a cinematic, you'll learn about captured mages. Continue to a fortress, open the door from the other side (collecting the Monument at Surmia en route), and then assist Rurik in a plan to deal with the remaining Charr forces. Mages will be protected by Obelisks, which damage nearby foes. Defend the mages from Charr attacks until the army is defeated or Rurik's plan is executed.
