Down the Rabbit Hole

Follow our walkthrough for Final Fantasy XVI's 'Down the Rabbit Hole' quest. Learn how to start the mission, convince Konrad and Natalie, and defeat The Sultan miniboss.

Alright, let's get this 'Down the Rabbit Hole' quest started in Final Fantasy XVI. First things first, you'll need to head to The Hideaway and chat with Otto. Do this twice, and you'll get three objectives. Then, make your way over to The Dalimil Inn and find L’ubor. He's usually chilling near The Briar’s Kiss. Talk to him, and the quest officially kicks off!

How to Convince Konrad and Natalie:

This part is all about the legwork. You'll be doing a fair bit of traveling and chatting:

1. First, enter The Final Sting, which is located to the south, to trigger a scene.
2. After that, head back inside the inn and talk to Viktor.
3. Next, return to L’ubor and have another chat.
4. Now, go to the northeastern gate and speak with Viktor again. This is where you'll convince Konrad.
5. After that, travel to The Baths and find L’ubor. He'll help you convince Natalie.
6. Finally, head back to The Briar’s Kiss and talk to Viktor one last time.

After all that talking, you'll finally get to the more exciting part: bandits are attacking The North Gate, and it's up to you to fend them off.

How to Defeat The Sultan Miniboss:

Once you're done with the chatter in Dalimil, exit through the nearby gate and head north a bit. You'll run into a group of Desert Bandits. Honestly, they're not much of a threat – a single use of Ignition should take care of most of them or at least weaken them significantly. After you deal with the first group, a second wave will show up. Be careful, as their gear and abilities can vary, and some might even cast Protect on their allies. After you've cleared the first two waves, a third wave will appear, and this one is led by The Sultan.

The Sultan is pretty much the same as the old Midnight Raven boss, just a miniboss now. He won't throw anything at you that you haven't seen before. Your best bet is to block his regular attacks using Titanic Block. Just be mindful of his combos, as they might interrupt your Titanic Counters. You'll want to dodge his Poison Breath attack – if you can get to his flank or rear while he's doing it, you can get in some good hits. When his Will Gauge is about half empty, focus on staggering him by using abilities like Deadly Embrace and Gouge. It's the classic boss formula, but it works!

Once you've defeated The Sultan, you'll automatically return to Dalimil, and the quest will conclude. You'll be rewarded with 50x Sharp Fangs, 50x Steelsilk, and 50x Bloody Hides.
