How to Use the Magic Burst Combo in FF16

The Magic Burst combo in Final Fantasy XVI is a powerful attack that can be used against most enemies, especially small groups. While the full combo is executed on one target, its effects can hit multiple enemies in an arc, combining melee and magic damage. The combo concludes with a strong magic burst that can knock down weaker foes.

Torgal Finisher: At the end of a Magic Burst combo, you can command Torgal to perform a Precision Sic or Ravage attack by timing it correctly. Success is indicated by Torgal glowing red or seeing "Precision Sic" or "Precision Ravage" in the battle log. Execute this immediately after the last Magic Burst.

Executing Magic Burst: To perform the combo, alternate between melee (Square) and ranged magic (Circle) attacks four times each: Square, Circle, Square, Circle, Square, Circle, Square, Circle. Consistent timing is key, pressing Circle shortly after Square. After upgrading the skill, the trigger window widens, requiring a slight delay (less than half a second) between button presses to avoid pressing them too quickly.

Practice Area: For consistent practice, visit the Hall of Virtue, accessible via the Arete Stone in the Hidden Hideaway. Here, you can fight enemies with controlled conditions, including infinite health and non-aggression, allowing you to perfect your timing without battlefield interruptions.

Aerial Burst: Executing the combo in the air results in an "Aerial Burst." The effects are the same as Magic Burst, but it can be followed by a Downthrust for additional aerial damage. Mastering this requires practice to stay airborne while completing the combo.

Upgrading Magic Burst: Upgrade the Magic Burst skill in the Abilities menu to "Mastery" to extend the trigger window, making the combo easier to execute. It's recommended to upgrade this early. Some players may prefer the default timing, so practicing in the Hall of Virtue is advised to find your preferred rhythm.

Combo Difficulty: Magic Burst x3 combos are generally easier than x4 because the third melee attack is stronger and often knocks weaker enemies down before the fourth Magic Burst can be performed. Focus on larger, tougher enemies within groups, as they are less likely to be knocked down prematurely, allowing you to complete the combo.
