Walkthrough for Final Fantasy XVI's 'Wings of Change' quest. Learn to use Garuda's Eikonic abilities, defeat Imperials and Wind Elementals, and explore Glorieuse.
Walkthrough
- 1After acquiring Garuda's abilities, access the Abilities tab in the menu to view the new ability board.
- 2Gouge and Wicked Wheel are available by default (mapped to \[Square] + \ [Circle] and \ [Square] + \ [Cross] respectively). Deadly Embrace functions as a Garuda counter to Phoenix Shift, drawing enemies to Clive.
- 3Garuda's abilities are air-elemental, suited for aerial combat, and excel at inflicting stagger.
- 4New Garuda abilities can be unlocked, upgraded, and mastered. You can swap between Phoenix and Garuda's ability sets by pressing the \ [R1] button. All Eikonic Abilities have separate cooldowns.
- 5Head down to the river and search a chest for a Gil Bug.
- 6Defeat Imperials and an Imperial War Aevis near a bridge. Use Garuda's abilities to stagger the Aevis, then finish it with Phoenix's abilities and Torgal.
- 7After crossing the bridge, turn around and search southwest of the bridge for a chest containing 5x Pinches of Magicked Ash.
- 8Head towards the tornado and enter the next open area, The Dragon's Aery, which is populated with Wind Elementals.
- 9These enemies are similar to the Imperial War Aevis but are more prone to diving and spin attacks. They yield Ability Points (AP) and crafting materials.
- 10Continue northeast to find the exit near The Dragon's Aery obelisk. You should have also acquired the Caer Norvent Glorieuse Gate obelisk earlier.
- 11The next main quest area, The Eye of the Tempest, will appear on the map. Entering this area concludes the 'Wings of Change' quest and begins the next one.
Tips
- Garuda's abilities are best for inflicting stagger rather than raw damage.
- Shifting between Eikonic ability sets is quick and beneficial due to separate cooldowns.
- The area around The Dragon's Aery obelisk and the bridge near the start of the Glorieuse exploration can be used to farm AP and materials.
- Respawning enemies and item motes can be achieved by fast traveling back to The Hideaway and then returning to an obelisk like The Dragon's Aery or Caer Norvent Glorieuse Gate.
- Grinding for levels is less critical in FF16, but farming AP for new abilities and materials for crafting/reinforcing gear is recommended for upcoming encounters.
