FF16: Cut From The Cloth Side Quest Walkthrough

To start the 'Cut From The Cloth' side quest, you must have completed the main story mission 'Fire and Ice' and be on the 'After the Storm' main story quest. Speak to Hortense, who is located on the Boarding Dock near the stairs in the Hideaway. She will explain that the children need new clothes but she is short on linen, as her order from the draper in Northreach is delayed.

Teleport to Northreach in the northeast of the World Map. Speak to the Draper at her stall to the left of the entrance. Hand over the Handwritten Receipt. She will apologize, explaining that her order from Boklad has not yet arrived and she suspects bandits. She will mention her mother's theory about bandits, and you will offer to retrieve her goods.

Leave Northreach via the southern exit and follow the road south, crossing the bridges. Continue along the path until you find a waylaid caravan on the side of the road. Approach the caravan and speak to the Traveling Trader, who is arguing with another man. You will discover they are bandits. The Maddened Merchant will then summon his hired heavy, Killer, to deal with you.

Defeat Killer, an Elite enemy wielding a large club/axe. He has a Will-Gauge and hits hard but is slow. His attacks include Wide Sweep (a large arc), Overhead Slam (an overhead smash), and Wide Sweep Combo (a follow-up sweep). Dodge his attacks and wait for openings to punish him. The Garuda ability Rook's Gambit is effective for countering his slow attacks and dealing significant Will damage. Gouge can also be useful after breaking his Will-Gauge halfway.

After defeating Killer, a short scene will play, and you will return to the Draper in Northreach. You and the Traveling Merchant will explain what happened. The Draper will thank you by giving you some extra materials in addition to your order.

Head back to Hortense in the Hideaway. Teleport to the Hideaway and speak to Hortense on the Boarding Dock. You will explain that the extra material cost you nothing, as it was payment for your services.

Hortense will offer you a choice of material: Black Embroidered Linen, White Continental Silk, or Lush Red Velvet. The choice does not appear to affect the outcome of the quest.
