Learn about the Shrink Ray in Duke Nukem Forever, its campaign and multiplayer uses, ammo capacity, and how to get stomp kills.
First Appearance: Campaign: The Duke Burger (Part 3); DLC (downloadable content — extra missions or items released after launch): The Clone Carousel
Stats:
- Maximum Ammo Carried: 10
- Rate of Fire: 0.2 seconds charge up, then 0.58 seconds per shot
- Melee Cooldown Time: 0.96 seconds
- Enemy Drop: No
- Multiplayer Respawn (be brought back to life at a checkpoint after death) Time: 20 seconds
Advantages:
- Disables an enemy target, making them easy to kill.
- Minor splash radius; one shot can affect more than one target if they are close enough together.
- Shrunk target can be stepped on.
Drawbacks:
- Cannot shrink a 'large' target while shrunk in the campaign.
- Limited ammunition.
- Weapon does not actually kill a target, requiring an alternative attack to finish them off.
Campaign:
The Shrink Ray serves as a support weapon in the right situations, able to disable any enemy (Save bosses). Enemies do 1/8th their normal damage and are vulnerable to one-hit kills from just about everything. The Shrink Ray will shrink down robots as well; Duke Bots and Duke Clones are vulnerable to this weapon. It is unknown if a Shrink Ray will work on Bombballs, since the opportunity to use one against them is not present.
Multiplayer:
The Shrink Ray reduces a player's defense to 1/4. Their offense is based on what they are trying to attack with:
- Shotgun: 1/64th normal damage
- Pistol, Ripper, Railgun, AT Laser: 1/16th normal damage
- RPG, Devastator, Enforcer Gun, Pipe Bomb, Laser Trip Mine: 1/4 normal dmg.
Players can simply look down at the shrunk opponent, walk over them to 'stomp' them. This is the only way to earn stomp kills.
- Use the Shrink Ray to disable tough enemies, then finish them off with a more powerful weapon.
- In multiplayer, a shrunk player is extremely vulnerable; coordinate with teammates to quickly eliminate them.
- Remember that the Shrink Ray itself does not kill enemies, so always have a follow-up attack ready.
- Stomping a shrunk player is the only way to get stomp kills, which may be important for certain objectives or achievements.
