Struggling against Ghost Gym Leader Ryme? Get the best tips and strategies for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, including recommended Pokemon and Ryme's full team lineup.

Alright, you're heading to Montenevera to take on the Ghost Gym Leader Ryme! This is likely the sixth gym you'll tackle, and Ryme's Pokémon are around Level 41-42. You'll need to scale a snowy mountain to get there, so be prepared for the climb!

Before you even think about battling, make sure your team is at least Level 35. Since this is a double battle, you'll be facing Ryme's two Pokémon with your own two. Think strategically about your team composition! Ghost and Dark-type Pokémon are your best bet here, as they deal double damage against Ghost-types. Definitely steer clear of Normal and Fighting-types, as they won't do any damage at all. And a Psychic-type? Bad idea – Ghost-types hit them for double damage!

You might even want to consider catching one of the new Ghost dog Pokémon, Greavard or its evolution Houndstone, on your way. Just remember, Ghost-types can also deal double damage to other Ghost-types, so it's a bit of a trade-off.

Gym Leader Ryme’s Pokémon

Here's the lineup you'll be facing:

PokémonLevelType
Mimikyu41Ghost
Banette41Ghost
Houndstone41Ghost
Toxtricity42Poison / Electric (Ghost Tera-type)

Remember, this is a double battle! You can choose your targets, and Ryme's Pokémon will do the same. It's often a good idea to focus your attacks on one of Ryme's Pokémon at a time rather than splitting your damage.

Mimikyu

Mimikyu has a neat trick: its Disguise ability means the first hit you land won't do anything. Once that disguise is broken, though, you're good to go. Watch out for its Shadow Sneak, a Ghost-type move that hits pretty hard.

Banette

Banette isn't too threatening, but it does have the Dark-type move Sucker Punch, which can pack a punch. Like Mimikyu, it can also use Shadow Sneak.

Houndstone

This is the evolution of Greavard. Houndstone has a Ghost-type move called Phantom Force. If it moves before your Pokémon, it'll disappear, making your attacks miss. On the next turn, it reappears and attacks. It can also use Play Rough, a Fairy-type move that can sometimes lower your Pokémon's attack. Because of Phantom Force, you'll want Pokémon that can either knock Houndstone out in one hit or attack fast enough to prevent it from disappearing!

Toxtricity

Normally a Poison/Electric type, Toxtricity will be a Ghost Tera-type for this battle. It's got some powerful moves. Hyper Voice hits both of your Pokémon, so be ready for that. Discharge is an Electric-type move that hits all adjacent Pokémon (including its ally!) and has a 30% chance to paralyze. And, of course, as a Ghost Tera-type, it can use Shadow Ball, which might lower your Pokémon's Special Defense.

Once you defeat Toxtricity, you'll earn the Ghost Gym Badge, be able to command Pokémon up to Level 50, and receive **TM041 Shadow Ball**!
