Discover the key differences in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, including its open-world Paldea, three story paths, multiplayer, and new features like Auto-Battles and the TM Machine.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are the latest mainline entries in the Pokémon series, building on the foundations of previous games. They offer a vast world to explore, hundreds of Pokémon to catch, and numerous characters to meet. Like previous games, Scarlet & Violet come in two versions, with minor differences primarily concerning which Pokémon appear in each. Trading with players of the other version allows for collecting all Pokémon.
A significant new feature is the fully open-world region of Paldea, allowing players to explore freely without a dictated story order. The game also supports multiplayer for up to four players to explore Paldea together.
Scarlet & Violet introduce three concurrent story paths: Victory Road, the traditional path of challenging eight gyms to become Champion; Path of Legends, a quest to find Herba Mystica guarded by Titan Pokémon; and Starfall Street, where players confront the rebellious Team Star.
New gameplay mechanics include having a Pokémon follow the player during exploration, which can also be directed using the “Let’s Go!” feature. This feature enables Auto-Battles where your Pokémon automatically fight wild Pokémon without player input, earning experience and items. However, players must be cautious not to miss shiny Pokémon during these battles.
The TM Machine, found in every Pokémon Center, allows players to craft Technical Machines (TMs) using League Points (LP) and materials from wild Pokémon. The available TMs expand as the adventure progresses, with each TM teaching a specific move to certain Pokémon. TMs are single-use but can be created multiple times.
The Picnic feature allows players to set up camp anywhere in Paldea, bringing all their traveling Pokémon together. Here, players can craft sandwiches with various ingredients, which restore HP and provide beneficial effects to Pokémon. Picnics also offer opportunities to interact with Pokémon, clean them, and invite other players to join via local or internet communication.
