Learn the best strategies and weaknesses to defeat the Dragon Titan, Dondozo, in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Get tips for both phases of the battle!

Alright, so you've made it to the Dragon Titan, Dondozo! This is a pretty tough fight, so let's make sure you're prepped. Ideally, you'll want your Pokemon to be at least Level 56, maybe even 57, to really have an edge here. Don't worry if you're a bit under, though; we'll cover some strategies.

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Type: Water
  • Weaknesses: Electric, Grass
  • Resistances: Ice, Water, Steel
  • Abilities: Oblivious (prevents Intimidate/Taunt)

Recommended Pokemon:

  • Grass Types: Breloom, Meowscarada, Scovillain
  • Electric Types: Luxray, Ampharos, Raichu

Phases:

  1. Phase 1: You'll face Dondozo alone. It can use Body Slam, which hits hard, and Water Pulse, which can inflict Confusion. Keep your health topped up with Potions or Super Potions! Remember, Dondozo is immune to Intimidate and Taunt thanks to Oblivious. Also, avoid using Ice, Water, or Steel types against it.
  2. Phase 2: After Dondozo flees, you'll find it in a shallow area west of where you fought it. This time, it's powered up by a Herba Mystica and Arven will join you with his Greedent. Dondozo gains two new attacks: Order Up and Aqua Tail. These, along with its previous attacks, will hit even harder. Greedent will mainly use Take Down. Just keep healing and fighting!

Strategy:

  • Focus on using your Electric or Grass-type Pokemon. They'll deal super effective damage.
  • Don't forget to use healing items like Potions and Super Potions regularly, especially when Dondozo uses Body Slam or Water Pulse.
  • Be mindful of the Confusion status effect from Water Pulse; it can make your own Pokemon attack themselves.
  • In the second phase, Arven's support is a big help, so coordinate your attacks with him.
  • Some useful moves to consider are Shroomish's Leech Seed, Scovillain's Razor Leaf, Luxray's Volt Switch, and Mareep's Thunder Shock.

After you defeat Dondozo and then Tatsugiri, you'll unlock the ability to Climb! You can use this by pressing the [button] on your controller to hop onto your Legendary Pokemon (Miraidon or Koraidon), and then pressing the [button] when facing a wall to scale it. Super useful for getting around Paldea!
