Follow this guide to complete the 'Need to Know: To' side quest in Horizon Forbidden West. Learn how to defeat the Fireclaw and Tideripper, and infiltrate The Rot.
Walkthrough
- 1Meet Talanah at Camp Nowhere. Follow the trail south from The Base; it's north of the Tallneck at The Stillsands. Speak with Ragurt, the camp scout, and exhaust dialogue options.
- 2Travel to Thornmarsh, a settlement further west. Navigate through the desert and jungle regions. The settlement is west-southwest of the Hunting Grounds in The Raintrace. Talanah will be waiting outside the settlement, behind a tree.
- 3Speak with Talanah to learn about her relationship with Amadis. Follow her to Amadis, who will be fighting a Fireclaw.
- 4Defeat the Fireclaw. It resembles a bear and uses fire-based attacks. Its shoulder sacs power flaming rocks; destroying them turns the rocks ordinary. It can also perform lunging attacks, splash attacks, and shoot a flamethrower from its stomach when standing. The battle starts with the Fireclaw at half health, and there are tripwires in the area that can be used as traps.
- 5After defeating the Fireclaw, find and speak with Amadis and Talanah. Engage in dialogue with Amadis, who will then lead you to The Rot.
- 6Infiltrate The Rot. The front gate is locked; go around to the back of the compound to find an open entrance.
- 7Choose to either fight the Rebels alone or open the gate to let Amadis and Talanah assist. If fighting alone, use stealth, tall grass, and your Focus to perform Silent Strikes. If you open the gate after some Rebels remain, all remaining enemies will be alerted. Defeat all Rebels, including two Champions with shields and a Heavy Gunner.
- 8After clearing the Rebels, a Tideripper will appear. Defeat the Tideripper. This machine can cause Purgewater Buildup, negating elemental damage. Its body slam attack is wide and difficult to dodge. Breaking off its tail can yield exclusive loot for upgrades. Aim for weak spots. A Deathbringer Gun is present but not very effective. The Heavy Gunner's mine-launching weapon is also an option but less ideal than your standard gear.
- 9Once the Tideripper is defeated, rejoin Talanah and Amadis to open the door with the prisoners. Engage in the final dialogue options to complete the quest.
Tips
- When fighting the Fireclaw, destroying the sacs on its shoulders will prevent it from throwing flaming rocks.
- Lure the Fireclaw towards the tripwires in the arena to use them as traps.
- When infiltrating The Rot, use your Focus to tag enemy locations and plan your stealth approach.
- To get exclusive loot from the Tideripper, focus on breaking off its tail.
- The Tideripper's Purgewater Buildup can be countered by using non-elemental attacks or focusing on physical damage.
