Alright, let's talk about the Bristleback in Horizon Forbidden West. These guys look like big, angry warthogs and they're all about digging up resources, then supercharging them with Acid for some nasty attacks. You'll first run into the Acid variant, but the Fire Bristleback you meet later fights pretty similarly.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Level: 13
• Type: Acquisition
• Cauldron: TAU Cauldron
• Weak vs: Shock
• Strong vs: Acid

Attacks to Watch For:

• Charging Attack: They'll just run straight at you. Easy to dodge out of the way.
• Lunging Attacks: Similar to the charge, just shorter range. Still pretty simple to avoid.
• Elemental Clouds: If you're close, they might buck up and create clouds of Acid (or Fire, depending on the variant) that slowly drain your health if you stand in them. Keep moving!
• Debris Charge: This is their big one. They dig up scrap or a log and then charge. Again, easy to dodge unless you're caught off guard by multiple enemies.
• Ranged Attack: Some might dig into the ground and launch a wide-area ranged attack. These can be tricky to dodge, so be ready to move.

Strategy:

• Exploit Weaknesses: Bristlebacks are weak to Shock. Using Shock arrows will slow them down, making them much easier to handle.
• Elemental Canisters: Depending on the variant, you can shoot the Acid or Fire canisters on their back. Hitting them with the corresponding elemental arrow (Acid for Acid Bristleback, Fire for Fire Bristleback) will cause them to explode, dealing massive damage to the Bristleback and anything nearby.
• Targeting Parts:
  • Tusks: Located on the front. Shooting these off removes their debris-charge attack and nets you the Bristleback Tusk resource. This part is destroyed if you kill the machine before detaching it.
  • Grinder Discs: On either side of the mouth. These are tough to hit due to the machine's movement. Use Aloy's Concentration (aim and hit R3) to slow down time and make targeting easier. You'll disable an attack or two by shooting these off, and get Braided Wire, Piercing Spike, Sturdy Hardplate, and Bristleback Primary Nerve. This part is destroyed upon killing the machine.
  • Acid/Fire Canister: On the back. You can knock these off for Metalbite, or shoot them with elemental arrows to trigger an explosion. This part is destroyed upon killing the machine.
• Looting: After defeating a Bristleback, you can loot its body for various resources like Metal Shards, Metalbite, Sturdy Hardplate, Machine Muscle, Bristleback Circulator, Braided Wire, Medium Machine Core, Bristleback Primary Nerve, and Metal Bone.

Honestly, the normal Bristlebacks aren't too bad once you get the hang of their attacks. Just keep moving, use Shock to slow them down, and aim for those canisters for some satisfying explosions. You'll be farming them for parts in no time!
