Scanning machines in horizon forbidden west is crucial for understanding their strengths and weaknesses. To scan a machine, use the R3 button (pushing in the right analog stick) and hold it until a reticule appears. Hover this reticule over the machine to initiate the scan, which takes longer for new machines. You can access detailed information about scanned machines in the Machine Catalogue within your Notebook.

While scanning, you can use the D-Pad (left and right) to see targetable parts. Press R2 to mark the machine, R1 to highlight its tracks and follow its movements when not alerted, and Triangle to highlight individual parts during combat for easier targeting.

Warning: The Specter and Specter Prime machines are missable. They are only available during specific missions, and if you fail to scan them during these encounters, you will not be able to unlock the trophy on your current save file.
