You can find this option in the Save menu, which you can access by talking to the Adventurer or directly from the world map. Just make sure your 3DS or 2DS is online!

So, what exactly do you get out of updating?

• Updated Profiles: If you've already registered friends, updating will grab their latest profiles. This is awesome if you've summoned their characters before and want to see if they've learned new abilities for Abilink. It's like getting a fresh character sheet from your buddies!
• Guest Profiles: You'll get up to five random guest profiles from players all over the globe. Think of these like guests you'd get from StreetPass. Using them lets you do a Friend Summon, and you'll even get an extra resident for Fort-Lune for each guest. Plus, they might send Ba’als your way! This is a lifesaver if you don't get many StreetPass tags.
• New Ba'als: Square Enix sometimes releases new Ba'als. If you haven't snagged one they've put out, updating will grab it for you. Unlike Ba'als from other players that change based on your level, these Square Enix Ba'als have a fixed level. So, get those Buster Ships ready!
