Learn about Bravely Second's character stats, including Physical Attack, Defense, Magic Attack, Magic Defense, Aim, Evade, HP, MP, Strength, Vitality, Intelligence, Mind, Dexterity, and Agility.

This guide details the character customization options in Bravely Second, focusing on how character stats influence gameplay. The game's character stats are divided into two main pages: Stat Values and Base Values.

Page 1: Stat Values

This page displays stats that directly impact battle performance. When viewed from the Status menu, innate character values unaffected by job and equipment are shown in brackets.

StatWhat It Does
Right Hand / Left Hand / 2-HandThe Physical Attack of the weapon equipped in your character’s right or left hand (or both hands). Affects how much damage the character’s physical attacks deal.
Physical DefenceAffects how much damage the character receives from physical attacks.
Magic AttackAffects the damage dealt by the character’s magical attacks.
Magic DefenceAffects how much damage the character receives from magical attacks.
AimDetermines the chance of the character’s physical attacks hitting their target.
EvadeThe character’s ability to evade physical attacks; lowers the number of enemy hits.

Weapon Equipping Notes:

  • One-handed weapons (swords, lances, axes) are equipped in the right hand by default.
  • Equipping a second one-handed weapon in the left hand halves the attack power of each weapon, unless the Ninja's Dual Wield ability is active.
  • Two-handed weapons (bows, pistols, knuckles) must be equipped in both hands, offer higher attack power, but prevent shield use.
  • The Knight's Two-Handed ability allows certain one-handed weapons to be equipped in both hands, doubling their attack power to match two-handed weapons.

Page 2: Base Values

This page covers underlying stats that influence the Stat Values and other aspects of gameplay. Some terms may not be clearly explained by the game itself.

StatWhat It Does
HPThe character’s health; when it reaches zero, your character cannot act.
MPRequired to cast magic spells or use certain command abilities.
StrengthAffects the character’s Physical Attack, which in turns affects damage to the enemy.
VitalityAffects the character’s Physical Defence, which in turns affects damage from the enemy.
IntelligenceAffects the character’s Magic Attack, which consequently affects damage to the enemy. Also determines the ability to inflict ailments.
MindAffects the character’s Magic Defence, which consequently affects damage from the enemy. Also determines the power of the user’s healing spells and ability to resist ailments.
DexterityAffects the character’s Aim and chance of a Brave Attack.
AgilityAffects the character’s Evade, hit count, speed and chance of a first strike.

Additional Gameplay Mechanics:

  • Hit Count: Increases with higher Agility and affects the number of hits during conventional attacks. Consistent hits are influenced by Aim; higher Aim reduces enemy evasion.
  • Speed: Crucial for acting earlier in battle. Higher speed allows characters to act before enemies. A random factor exists, but a significant speed gap can negate it.

Page 3 and 4: Immunities and Resistances

The third page lists status ailments a character is immune to due to equipment or abilities. The fourth page details resistances against the seven elements (Fire, Water, Lightning, Wind, Earth, Light, Dark). Resisting an element halves damage, while nullifying it results in zero damage.
