Race for the Compass
Guide to the Race for the Compass quest in Bravely Second, including strategies for the Geist and Revenant boss fight, dungeon navigation, and item acquisition.
- 1Upon arriving at Harena Sea Caves, note that all dungeon traps have reverted to their original positions. Refer to the Harena Sea Caves section in Chapter 1 for navigation assistance if needed. Treasure chests retain their contents.
- 2Reach the compass within the Depths to trigger a boss battle against Geist and Revenant.
Boss: Geist and Revenant
- Revenant: Level 51, 50,000 HP, Weakness: Light
- Geist: Level 51, 30,000 HP, Weakness: None
Strategy:
- Field your own Exorcist to instantly KO Revenant after he uses Possession.
- At the start, both bosses use physical attacks and Undo HP. Buff your party's physical defense.
- Focus all attacks on Geist first, as he is more frail than in his solo battle. Physical attacks are recommended due to Geist's high magic defense. The Doujigiri-Yasutsuna weapon is effective against both.
- Buff your party's physical attack if possible. Fencer techniques can significantly speed up the fight against Geist.
- Be cautious when Revenant uses Soul Mirror, which reflects physical hits. Use the Exorcist's Purgation to remove it. If Soul Mirror is active, switch targets or use abilities that do not trigger counters.
- For Revenant, exploit his weakness to light using abilities like the Hawkeye's Shininghead. The Doujigiri-Yasutsuna is also effective.
- When Revenant takes five hits, his Soul Power reaches 100%, and he uses Soul Blaster. Default to brace for the attack or use Undo Action.
- When Revenant is below half HP, he will use Possession on one of your characters. Carefully attack the possessed party member to free them, then use Undo HP on Revenant to instantly KO him.
- Equip your Exorcist with Hermes Sandals to outspeed Revenant. If a possessed character is too bulky to damage, use the Hawkeye's Harpoon.
- Alternatively, whittle Revenant down to almost half health and defeat him in one turn using strong attacks and buffs.
- If Revenant is defeated first, Geist may use Mercy Killing, which has a 1/3 chance to instantly KO party members. Undo Action can prevent this, but it's safer to defeat Geist first.
Sidequest: Second Chance
Ready to take on the Asterisk Holders again in Bravely Second? This guide covers how to re-challenge them, plus tips for grinding EXP and JP efficiently.
So, you've made it back to the world map and noticed a bunch of blue exclamation points popping up in familiar places? Yep, you guessed it! All those sidequests from Chapters 1 through 3 where you fought the Asterisk Holders are back. This is your chance to grab any jobs you might have missed on your first run. Trust me, you'll want to do them all – not just for the completionists out there, but because these bosses are tougher this time around, and so are you!
The game's pretty smart too; if you've already cleared a sidequest, it'll speed things up for you. Plus, you can mash the [X] button to skip cutscenes and get straight to the action. Don't forget, you can repeat all the original sidequests from Chapters 1-3. Here's a quick rundown of who you'll be facing again:
| Original Chapter | Start Location | Sidequest |
| 1 | Desert Oasis | Thief vs Red Mage |
| 1 | Miasma Woods | Summoner vs Swordmaster |
| 2 | House by the Sea | White Mage vs Merchant |
| 2 | Yunohana | Black Mage vs Ranger |
| 2 | Starkfort | Knight vs Ninja |
| 3 | Florem | Valkyrie vs Monk |
| 3 | Florem | Performer vs Pirate |
| 3 | Grandship | Time Mage vs Dark Knight |
- Generally, you don't need super-specific gear for these fights, but it definitely helps. If you want a solid weapon, grab the Doujigiri-Yasutsuna katana from Geyser Grotto. It's a beast against humanoids and will make these fights a breeze.
- Looking to power level your EXP or Job Points? Head to the second floor of Grapp Keep and grind on the undead enemies there.
- To make grinding super efficient, have your Bishop use Benediction x2 or Vivify x4 on the enemy party to instantly KO them. It's also a good idea to level up some characters in the Bishop job so they can do this too.
- Once a character has learned Holy Magic Level 5 and you've leveled them up in the White Mage job to learn Group-Cast Master, a single cast of Benediction will wipe out the entire enemy group. This makes chaining battles incredibly easy.
- For safe grinding, equip your healer(s) with an Earthing Rod to block the effects of Mummify. Alternatively, boost their speed with Hermes Sandals and the Speed 20% Up (Thief) ability to ensure they aren't outsped by the enemies.
