Stats / Weaknesses:

• Back Growth: The yellow patch on his backside deals extra damage.

Phases:

1. Opening Phase: Abyss will teleport directly to you and attack immediately. Your main goal here is to shoot him right before he attacks to interrupt him. Keep your shotgun ready!
2. Mid-Battle: He'll start using images. Sometimes an image will attack from the front while the real Abyss attacks from behind, or an image will appear in front and attack while the real one attacks later. The key is that the real Abyss breathes purple gas when he's charging an attack. Images don't do this. Also, when you aim at an image, your laser sight will pass through it; aiming at the real Abyss will make your laser sight turn into a circle.
3. Late Battle: Abyss will use more complex attacks, including two images trying to ram you from the sides, and a delayed attack where an image attacks first, then the real Abyss. He'll also start using a standard claw attack and a dashing claw attack without teleporting, sometimes preceded by purple gas. He can also grab you from close range.

Strategy:

• Interrupting Attacks: The best way to damage Abyss is to shoot him right after he teleports but before he attacks. The shotgun is great for this, especially if you hit him just before an overhead claw attack – it can knock him right out of it.
• Identifying the Real Abyss: Always look for the purple gas! The real Abyss breathes it when charging an attack. Images do not. Your aiming reticle will also turn into a circle when aimed at the real Abyss, but will pass through images.
• Dodging: Some of his attacks, like the Teleport Ram Claw Attack (where two images try to hit you from the sides), require you to dodge. The second Abyss to dash in this attack is the real one. Be ready to use your dodge command immediately.
• The Grab: If Abyss grabs you, you'll need to rapidly tap the Y button to escape. If you fail, it's an instant kill, so don't panic and mash that button!
• Weak Spot: Don't forget to target his Back Growth when you have the chance for extra damage.
• General Combat: Keep moving and be ready to react to his teleportation. He changes his attack patterns frequently, so stay focused and keep blasting!
