Walkthrough
  1. 1
Head south into Route 104 and then back into Petalburg Woods.
  2. 2
Use Cut to access a new path in Petalburg Woods.
  3. 3
Head south in Petalburg Woods to a ledge. Cut the bush to your right.
  4. 4
Head east and talk to the lady to receive a Miracle Seed, which boosts a Pokemon's Grass moves by 10% when held.
  5. 5
Head south out of Petalburg Woods to the other side of Route 104.
  6. 6
Enter the cottage by the sea with the dock and ship.
  7. 7
Talk to Mr. Briney and accept his offer to sail to Dewford Town.
  8. 8
Upon arrival in Dewford Town, heal your Pokemon at the Pokemon Center to the west.
  9. 9
Near the dock, talk to the fisherman and say yes to his question to receive the Old Rod.
  10. 10
To fish, cast your rod in the water and press A quickly when you hear "Oh! A bite!". The Old Rod primarily yields Magikarp, which evolves into Gyarados at level 20.
  11. 11
Go to the house to the right of the Pokemon Center. Talk to the guy inside to receive a Silk Scarf, which powers up Normal-type moves when held.
  12. 12
Go to the house north of the Pokemon Center. Talk to a person inside to change the trendy phrase, which affects the 6 random tiles where Feebas appears in Route 119. A kid in this house will give you TM36, Sludge Bomb.
  13. 13
Head south of the Pokemon Center to the gym. If your Pokemon are too weak, consider battling trainers near Granite Cave or wild Pokemon within Granite Cave.

Tips
  • The gym's darkness decreases as you defeat more trainers.
  • For Machop, use Flying-type Pokemon like Wingull or Taillow (or Swellow).
  • For Meditite, which is part Psychic, use Flying-type Pokemon. If you don't have a flyer, use your starter Pokemon or a Psychic-type like Kadabra or Ralts.
  • Meditite may use Focus Punch, which can knock you out in one hit.
  • Any starter Pokemon can be used against Brawly's team as they don't have a type advantage or disadvantage.
