Upgrading Weapons

This guide details how to upgrade various weapons in Final Fantasy XV by obtaining specific components and giving them to Cid. It covers upgrades for the Circular Saw, Bioblaster, Absorb Shield, Valiant, Auto-Crossbow, Plunderers, and Force Stealer.

Circular Saw Upgrade:

To upgrade the Circular Saw, you need a Sky Gemstone. If you completed “A Feline Feast,” you should already have this component. Giving Cid a Sky Gemstone rewards you with 2,000 EXP and the Circular Saw Plus.

Bioblaster Upgrade:

The Bioblaster can be upgraded by obtaining a Dynamo. You can find a Dynamo from a Treasure Spot near the Midgardsormr, or by defeating a MA Hoplomachus (level 45 mech) which frequently spawns south of Fort Vaullerey and has a high chance to drop a Dynamo.

Absorb Shield Upgrade:

To upgrade the Absorb Shield, you need an Armor Spike. This component is obtained by completing the level 38 hunt “Hammer the Cannibals,” available at the Cauthess Rest Area. The hunt involves defeating three Skarnbulettes, which can drop Armor Spikes. Note that an Armor Spike is different from a Shield Spike.

Additionally, you can trade four Caem Carrots for an upgradable weapon, such as the Absorb Shield, which can be upgraded using harvested Spiked Armor from Skarnbulettes.

Valiant Upgrade:

The hunt “Hammer the Cannibals” takes place east of the Cauthess Rest Area. Within the crater containing The Archaean’s Mirror Fishing Spot, on the eastern edge of the pond, there is a Treasure Spot that yields an Earth Gemstone. This is the component needed to upgrade the Valiant.

Other Upgrades:

Auto-Crossbow: Requires a Cactuar Needle. While Cactuars may drop these, a more reliable source is the Vesperpool. Alternatively, you can attempt the hunt “In the Drylands, It Rains Spines” at the Longwythe Rest Area.

Plunderers and Force Stealer: These weapons can be upgraded by clearing dungeons. The Plunderers require a Barbed Scythe (dropped by Killer Wasps and Soldier Wasps found in The Rock of Ravatogh and Malmalam Thicket). The Force Stealer requires a Monster Claw, obtained from a beast in Malmalam Thicket.

It is recommended to upgrade weapons for which you have the components and gather missing ingredients from previously visited areas. As you explore The Rock of Ravatogh, the Vesperpool, and Malmalam Thicket, keep an eye out for opportunities to gather the necessary components for the Auto Crossbow, Plunderers, and Force Stealer.
