Navigate the VersaLife labs, uncover the Gray Death virus plot, and find crucial upgrades. Part 52 of the Deus Ex Remastered walkthrough.

Travel West to find an MJ12 Trooper patrolling with a GEP Gun. It's useful to disable this guy to avoid trouble later and to steal his GEP Gun. The Level 2 Access route leads to a dead end without the proper code for an INF Str Keypad. You can see the center of the room where they keep the ROM-encoding, but there's more to be done before you upload it. Go down and head West, then go down again.

You may encounter an MJ12 Trooper carrying an Assault Shotgun, and the Woman in Black with the Dragon's Tooth. There's no need to disable either. Pressing on leads to the sleeping quarters of the troops.

There's no need to be in the sleeping quarters. Some minor items are behind minor locks, and attempting to open them will alert the entire area. If you must know, you can find the following: On the South wall, from left to right: Locker 1 (20% Str Lock) contains a PEPPER GUN and two PEPPER CARTRIDGES, Locker 2 (20% Str Lock) contains a 50 CREDIT CHIT and 10MM AMMO, Locker 3 is Unlocked and contains a PISTOL, Locker 4 (20% Str Lock) contains a 50 CREDIT CHIT, a LOCKPICK and a MULTITOOL. If you have sufficient strength, you can use the Dragon's Tooth to slice open doors without causing alarm. None of the Troopers carry anything but weapons and ammo. You can easily obtain two crates with 2 packs of 10MM AMMO. The large shower area contains ten lockers, none of which contain anything noteworthy. The locker with the 40% Str Lock only has a PISTOL. The Terminal controls the same systems you previously checked.

Past the sleeping chamber to the North and East, you'll find yourself on the walkways above the Level 3 Laboratories. You can observe Maggie Chow conversing with Bob Page; get close to eavesdrop. It appears an 'Icarus' is intended to deal with you. If Maggie is already deceased, you will only see Bob Page, who departs when you approach. The scene between Page and Chow reinforces the connections between Page, MJ12, and Area 51. It also marks the first mention of Icarus. Due to a bug, you can shoot through a small gap between the bulletproof glass and the wall, allowing you to kill both Maggie Chow and Bob Page. Killing Maggie Chow will trigger the game as if you had shot her earlier; killing Bob Page has no effect as it is considered impossible.

Take any stairs down to reach the heart of VersaLife. To the Northeast, a DataCube reveals that a virus, not medicine, is being shipped to New York via a superfreighter. This is likely the Gray Death. The MJ12 labs beneath the sewers had already anticipated this shipment. The virus is to be loaded onto helicopters for rapid airborne dissemination of the Gray Death. A LOCKPICK and a HAZMAT SUIT can be found here. Dr. Casswell and the Lab Assistant remain unresponsive, possibly due to a bug.

To the Southeast, you'll find Dr. Kohl, overseeing experiments. A captive man and two Greasels are present. Kohl mentions that new test subjects showed no immune response. Since nano-augmentation and the Gray Death are rejected by most humans (excluding you, Paul, and Walton), this represents a significant breakthrough. Next to the Med Bot, there is an alien carcass and the EXPERIMENTAL SUBJECT CELLS NANOKEY. You could use it to free both the Bums and the Greasels, but they will likely be shot. Past the Radioactive signs, you can open doors with the Nanokey to enter a radioactive area inhabited by two hostile aliens, referred to as 'Grays' by JCD. These creatures emit radiation and are immune to Fire (Flamethrower, Plasma Rifle) and gaseous attacks (Gas Grenade, Pepper Gun). The Men in Black (MiB) here are described as crazy. To the West lies the jackpot: three Augmentation Canisters. M. Bates and Dr. Michalopolis are also present. A tokamak is a magnetic chamber for plasma containment. Michaelopolis is experimenting with coat-proteins similar to normal phospholipids, a key component of cell membranes, for integrating alien components like nanobots into biological hosts.

The code 5878 unlocks a door to a radioactive room with four INF/INF strength containers. The computer to the South can be accessed using MCHOW/DAMOCLES. The master password DAMOCLES also works with MLUNDQUIST, ADONOVAN, and MBATES, three VersaLife scientists. Use all four Special Options, then read the emails on all four accounts. From Lundquist's email, it's clear the Gray Death virus is ready for airborne dissemination over New York, Washington, and D.C., and MJ12 is preparing Ambrosia for those who accept their new leadership. Physiopharmaceutical augmentation, found in the MiB, is the third type of augmentation in the game. The Yitzhak Scale is fictional. Dr. Bates is identified as a woman in VersaLife, despite emails signed by Mark Bates. Bates' Inbox contains information about the Grays' radiation emission. Dreamland is an alternate name for Area 51. Information on the commando's Obsidian armor and NBC (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical) battlefields is also present.
