Character Entry: Ashikaga Yoshiteru

First up, let's talk about Ashikaga Yoshiteru. He was the 13th shogun of the Kamakura shogunate. This guy was serious about his swordsmanship, even learning the secret Single Tachi technique from the legendary Tsukahara Bokuden. Because of his skills, he earned the nickname "Swordsman Shogun." He was trying to bring back the glory days of the Kamakura shogunate, which was really struggling. To do that, he was fighting the Miyoshi clan for control of the central provinces. At the same time, he was trying to make peace with other daimyo across the land, even letting them use a character from his name to show his authority. Pretty strategic, right?

Unfortunately, things took a dark turn. He was betrayed by people like Matsunaga Hisahide and ended up surrounded at Nijogosho. Even though he fought like a total beast, wielding powerful swords from the shogunal house in each hand, he was eventually overwhelmed. Legend says that in the heat of battle, surrounded by the mist of blood, he even invented new techniques. Talk about going out fighting!

Later on, Yoshiteru reflects on his life. He realizes that all his efforts to revive the shogunate were just a dream that faded away. He doesn't really care about the Ashikaga clan's fate anymore. What truly bothered him was that he couldn't pass on the unique two-handed twin-sword techniques he invented right at the moment of his death. But, he found some peace when he was able to transmit those secrets to William. So, even in death, he passed on his legacy.
