Manage Tommy's money in Mafia: Definitive Edition's Freeride mode. Avoid arrest by having $1,000 and learn about weapons from Yellow Pete.
Walkthrough
- 1Manage Tommy's money in Freeride mode. If Tommy does not have at least $1,000, he is arrested and you fail the mission.
- 2Be cautious of police cars (blue lines on the radar (your minimap with nearby blips and threats marked)) and gangster cars (orange lines on the radar). If either type of vehicle is chasing Tommy, it will appear as a red line on the radar.
- 3In the country setting, police and gangsters disappear if Tommy causes the country setting to load.
- 4Tommy earns $100 for every few seconds driven over 70 mph. After completing the main story missions, this speed increases to 105 mph. Driving this fast is a major offense if seen by police. It is less risky in the country where police do not appear.
- 5If Tommy bumps a gangster car, their vehicle can drive unusually fast to ram Tommy's car. Gangsters may attempt to kill Tommy, and their Pump-action shotgun can fire eight times rapidly.
- 6To avoid failing Freeride and restarting with $0, give gangster cars a wide berth, especially if earning money via taxi fares.
- 7Gangsters attacking from a car can be deadly. Try to lure them out of their vehicle. Keep distance, especially from the gangster with the shotgun on the passenger side. Use the Thompson 1928 to shoot the gangster exiting the car, then crouch and move until the other gangster is visible, and shoot him.
- 8To fire the Pump-action shotgun more rapidly, hold down the Backward key, then the Fire key, and add presses of the Jump key.
- 9If the country setting is available, driving into it can make pursuing gangsters disappear.
Weapons:
Yellow Pete's gun shop is located behind the door on the side of the Twister Theater facing a parking lot. The Twister Theater is on a long dead-end road in Hoboken. The shop sells weapons with listed prices.
Weapons Sold by Yellow Pete:
- Baseball bat ($10): A one-hit knockout when fully powered-up. It is the only weapon that can be carried openly without attracting police attention, but it is a large weapon.
- Knife ($10): A one-hit kill (requiring several thrash attacks) when fully powered-up. It is a small weapon, making it easier to carry alongside other weapons.
- Colt 1911 ($50): A mid-distance handgun with good accuracy.
- S&W Model 27 Magnum ($100): A more powerful mid-distance handgun than the Colt 1911, but slower and can affect aim.
- Pump-action shotgun ($500): Powerful at short range.
- Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 ($2,000): A good sniper rifle for long-distance kills.
- Thompson 1928 ($1,000): A machine gun with mid-to-long range, considered the best all-rounder. Use single taps of the LMB (left mouse button) as firing continuously will raise the aim.
Recommended Weapons:
- Large weapon: Thompson machine gun for versatility. The Pump-action shotgun has limited range, and the sniper rifle's bullet spray is less effective than a machine gun's. If carrying a second large weapon, choose between the shotgun and sniper rifle.
- Small weapons: Colt 1911, S&W Model 27 Magnum, Knife, and Grenades.
- Avoid the Colt Detective Special unless out of other small weapons.
- Grenades and Molotov Cocktails ($1,000 each): Grenades have a larger area of effect.
Killing Gangsters:
- Tommy earns $500 for each gangster killed with a weapon.
- Gangsters are identifiable by their black clothing and black fedoras. They may walk upright or stooped.
- A gangster on foot is armed with a Thompson 1928. Kill them when police are not around by shooting them in the upper body or head. A fully-powered Knife can also perform a one-hit kill from behind.
- Running them down is risky as they may jump aside. A braking swerve might work, but shooting or stabbing is easier if they are not alerted.
- Pairs of gangsters may be armed with a Colt 1911, S&W Model 27 Magnum, or other weapons.
Tips
- The radar (a display on the HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap), or Heads-Up Display) shows police cars with blue lines and gangster cars with orange lines. A red line indicates a pursuing vehicle.
- To increase Tommy's money rapidly, drive over 70 mph, preferably in the country to avoid police.
- When engaging gangsters in a car, lure them out and keep your distance, especially from the shotgun-wielding gangster.
- To fire the Thompson 1928 more rapidly, use tap-firing with the LMB.
- If Tommy bumps a gangster's car, be prepared for them to ram you.
- If Tommy's car is disabled and gangsters get out, quickly eliminate them before they can kill him.
- The Knife and Baseball Bat are one-hit kill weapons when fully powered.
- Carry the Thompson 1928 as a primary large weapon to avoid attracting police attention with a second large weapon.
- Collect weapons and ammo from fallen enemies.
- Grenades have a larger area of effect than Molotov Cocktails.
