Profile Management:

Before starting missions, you create a Profile for your save games. You cannot delete individual saves, but you can add or delete entire Profiles. You can choose which Profile to load when starting the game.

Free Ride:

You can play "Freeride" during the main story missions. "Freeride Extreme" becomes available after completing all main story missions, or by using a specific gimmick (detailed elsewhere). Tommy begins "Freeride" in City-Small with a Colt 1911, S&W Model 27 Magnum, Sawed-off shotgun, Thompson 1928, full Health, no money, and a Falconer Yellowcar. As you progress through the main story, more vehicles become available to choose from, including specific models and colors (though one color may be unavailable due to a glitch and must be acquired from the street). The most powerful vehicles for "Freeride" are unlocked by completing "Freeride Extreme" missions. You can also adjust traffic, pedestrian, and police patrol density by completing all main story missions or using a specific gimmick.

You can earn money in "Freeride" by working as a taxi driver, killing gangsters, blowing up vehicles, and by speeding over 70 mph (or 105 mph after completing the main story missions).

Saving the Game:

You can save your game for $2,000 by interacting with the front door of Salieri's Bar. You have one save slot. If you do not reload a save and instead restart a mission, Tommy will begin with no money and his starting four weapons.

Saving with a Different Car:

To change your "Freeride" car without losing earned money:

  1. Save at Salieri's Bar with your current car.
  2. Exit to the menu.
  3. Start a new "Freeride" with a different car. Ensure the new car has the same number of doors as the previous one to avoid potential game crashes (though some users report success with different door counts). Specific exceptions exist, such as changing from a Lassiter V16 Police to a Thor four-door, then to a Schubert Extra Six Tudor.
Tips
  • For v1.2 of the game, typing "cumdal" at the start of missions can improve draw distance.
  • If you have v1.2 of the game, type "cornufse" to be able to jack or pick the lock of any car.
