Mission 2: The Shadow of Nod Walkthrough

Welcome to Mission 2 of the Brotherhood of Nod campaign in Command & Conquer Remastered Collection: "The Shadow of Nod." In this crucial mission, you'll learn the importance of stealth and reconnaissance as you infiltrate a GDI base to gather intelligence on their Tiberium harvesting operations. This mission introduces new Nod units and emphasizes strategic unit preservation.

Mission Objectives

Your primary objectives in "The Shadow of Nod" are:

1. Destroy the GDI Communications Center.
2. Destroy the GDI Tiberium Refinery.
3. Destroy the GDI Power Plant.
4. Escape the area with your forces.

Starting Forces and Initial Strategy

You begin with a small but capable force: a few Flame Tanks and a squad of Militia. Your initial task is to move cautiously towards the GDI outpost. The Militia are excellent for scouting and can engage infantry effectively, while the Flame Tanks are your primary offensive unit against structures and vehicles. Avoid direct confrontation with GDI's heavier units early on.

Infiltrating the GDI Outpost

The GDI outpost is defended by several Riflemen and a few turrets. Use your Militia to draw fire from the turrets while your Flame Tanks move in to destroy them. The Flame Tanks' area-of-effect attack is devastating against clustered infantry. Prioritize destroying the turrets first, as they pose a significant threat to your units.

Gathering Intelligence and Destroying Key Structures

Once the outer defenses are dealt with, you'll need to locate and destroy the three key GDI structures. The Communications Center is usually located near the GDI Command Center. The Tiberium Refinery will be where GDI is actively harvesting Tiberium, often marked by a large structure with a conveyor belt. The Power Plant is essential for GDI's base operations and is typically a large, distinct building. Use your Flame Tanks to burn down these structures. Remember, the Militia can help clear out any remaining infantry guarding these objectives.

The Importance of Stealth and Unit Preservation

Throughout this mission, Nod emphasizes the value of its units. While you have a decent starting force, losing too many Flame Tanks will make subsequent objectives much harder. Use the terrain to your advantage, flanking enemy positions and retreating damaged units to safety if possible. The mission is designed to teach you that every unit counts for the Brotherhood.

Escaping the Area

After destroying the three target structures, a new objective will appear: escape the area. You'll need to guide your surviving units to the designated extraction point, which will be marked on your minimap. Be aware that GDI may launch a counter-attack as you attempt to leave. Keep your units together and be prepared to defend yourselves during the retreat.

Advanced Tips

• Scouting: Use your Militia to scout ahead and identify enemy positions and patrol routes.
• Flame Tank Positioning: Keep your Flame Tanks on the move to avoid concentrated fire from GDI turrets. Their flamethrower has a short range, so get close but be mindful of incoming damage.
• Target Prioritization: Always target GDI defenses (turrets, barracks) before attacking their harvesting or power structures.
• Saving Units: If a Flame Tank is heavily damaged, consider sacrificing a Militia to draw fire while the tank retreats to a safer position.

Completing "The Shadow of Nod" successfully will provide you with valuable experience in Nod's unique combat doctrine and prepare you for the challenges ahead in the Brotherhood of Nod campaign.
