Understand the new yield type, Influence, crucial for diplomacy. Discover how rivers are now navigable and run through tiles. Learn about the distinction between Towns and Cities, and how Settlements are age-limited. City names will appear in native languages.
New Features:
- Ages: Three distinct Ages (Antiquity, Exploration, Modern) with unique tech/civic trees. Civilizations transform between Ages based on leader, previous civ, and gameplay elements (e.g., owning 3 Horse Resources grants access to Mongolia in the Exploration Age). A temporary 'Crisis' occurs during Age shifts, forcing negative policies to balance the game.
- Influence Yield: A new yield type used for diplomacy.
- Rivers: Now exist as small (crossable) and wide, navigable rivers (traversable by Naval Units and embarked Units). Rivers run through tiles, not on edges.
- Settlements: Divided into Towns and Cities, both categorized as Settlements. All Settlements (except the Capital) start as Towns, which accrue yields and allow building purchases but produce only Gold. Towns can be upgraded to Cities.
- City Names: Rendered in native languages.
- Settlement Age Limit: Settlements are limited by Age.
- Settlers: Divided into two units: Founder (starts with Capital) and Settler (produces new Settlements).
