Unlock the secrets of Fractal Map Strategy in Civilization VII. Learn about new features, Ages, yields, rivers, settlements, and more to dominate your opponents.
This guide details the Fractal Map Strategy for Civilization VII, focusing on its new features and mechanics.
New Features:
- Ages: The game is divided into three distinct Ages: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. Each age has unique tech and civic trees. Civilizations are bound to one age and can transform into others based on player actions and specific gameplay elements (e.g., owning 3 Horse Resources grants access to Mongolia in the Exploration Age). A temporary "Crisis" occurs during each Age shift, forcing players to add negative policies to balance the game.
- Influence Yield: A new yield type, Influence, is used for diplomacy.
- Rivers: Rivers are now divided into small and navigable categories. They run through tiles rather than on edges.
- Settlements: Cities are now divided into Cities and Towns, both categorized as Settlements. Towns are incapable of producing anything on their own (all Production converts to Gold) but accrue yields and allow building purchases. Towns can be upgraded into Cities.
- City Naming and Age Limits: City names are rendered in native languages. Settlements are limited by Age.
- Settlers: Settlers are divided into two units: the Founder (a Civilian Unit) and others.
