Walkthrough
- 1Ages: The game features three distinct Ages: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. Each has unique tech and civic trees. Civilizations are bound to one age and can transform into others in subsequent ages based on leader, previous civilization, and gameplay elements (e.g., owning 3 Horse Resources grants access to Mongolia in the Exploration Age). All players face a temporary 'Crisis' during Age shifts, requiring negative policies to balance the game.
- 2Influence Yield: A new yield type, Influence, is introduced for conducting diplomacy.
- 3Rivers: Rivers are now categorized as small (crossable normally) and navigable (traversable by Naval Units and embarked Units). Rivers now run through tiles, not on their edges.
- 4Settlements: Settlements are divided into Towns and Cities, both categorized as Settlements. All settlements, except the Capital, start as Towns, which only produce Gold. Towns can be upgraded into Cities.
- 5City Names: Settlement names are rendered in their native languages.
- 6Settlement Limits: Settlements are limited by Age based on estimated numbers.
- 7Settler Units: There are two distinct Settler units: the Founder (a Civilian Unit) and the Settler.
