Advanced Scenarios

Explore new features in Civilization VII, including distinct Ages, the Influence yield, navigable rivers, and the new City/Town settlement system. Learn how to master advanced gameplay.

This guide covers advanced scenarios and new features introduced in Civilization VII. Dive into the intricacies of the game to enhance your strategic gameplay.

New Features:

  1. Ages: The game is divided into Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern Ages, each with unique tech and civic trees. Civilizations are bound to one age and can transform into others based on leader, previous civilization, and gameplay elements (e.g., owning 3 Horse Resources grants access to Mongolia in the Exploration Age). A temporary 'Crisis' affects all players during Age shifts, introducing negative policies to balance the game.
  2. Influence Yield: A new yield type used for diplomacy with other civilizations.
  3. Rivers: Now categorized as small (crossable normally) and wide, navigable rivers (traversable by Naval Units and embarked Units). Rivers now run through tiles instead of along their edges.
  4. Settlements: Cities are now divided into 'Cities' and 'Towns', both categorized as 'Settlements'. All Settlements, except the Capital, start as Towns, which convert Production to Gold and allow purchasing Buildings. Towns can be upgraded into Cities.
  5. City Names: Settlement names are displayed in their civilization's native language. Settlement limits are now Age-dependent.
  6. Settlers: Divided into two units: the 'Founder' (a Civilian Unit that produces the Capital) and other Settlers.
