Advanced Mechanics

Mechanics:

1. Ages: The game features three distinct Ages: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. Each Age has unique tech and civic trees. Civilizations are bound to one Age and can transform into new ones during Age transitions, influenced by leaders, previous civilizations, and gameplay elements (e.g., owning 3 Horse Resources can lead to Mongolia in the Exploration Age). A temporary 'Crisis' occurs during each Age shift, forcing negative policies to balance the game.
2. Influence Yield: A new yield type, Influence, is introduced for conducting diplomacy with other civilizations.
3. Rivers: Rivers are now categorized into small (crossable normally) and wide, navigable rivers. Both types now run through tiles rather than along their edges. Naval Units and embarked Units can travel through navigable rivers.
4. Settlements: Cities are now divided into two categories: Cities and Towns, both classified as Settlements. All Settlements, except the Capital, start as Towns. Towns accrue yields and allow building purchases but cannot produce anything directly (all Production is converted to Gold). Towns can eventually be upgraded into Cities.
5. Settler Units: Settlers are divided into two separate units: the Founder (a Civilian Unit) and the Settler.
6. City Naming & Limits: City names are rendered in their civilization's native languages. Settlements are limited by Age based on estimated numbers.
